And the late-night war wages on: During the opening monologue of Tuesday's 'Tonight Show,' host Jay Leno took a subtle, blink-and-you'll-miss-it jab at former NBC rival Conan O'Brien.
It came at the end of a joke about Faisal Shahzad, the man suspected of last weekend's attempted car bombing in Times Square, during which Leno highlighted Shahzad's fake Facebook profile page. The obvious jokes were there, of course: Shahzad's was listed as being friends with Osama bin Laden, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and, yes, Danny Bonaduce, while his activities included beach volleyball, rollerblading and blowing up Nissan Pathfinders. But it was the items listed under Shahzad's "Member of" section that raised a few eyebrows. Watch the clip after the jumpand let us know if it was kosher or crass.
Did you see it? Though Leno didn't mention it, beneath the Bridgepoint Ultimate Frisbee Club, Al Qaeda and the Pakistan Frequent Flyers Club was "Team Coco," the group of fans who rallied behind O'Brien before he was ousted from the 'Tonight Show' in January.
This is just the latest twist in the fallout between NBC, Leno and O'Brien, which seemed to have finally settled after news broke last month that O'Brien will host a new talk show on TBS, beginning this November.
In an interview with '60 Minutes' on Sunday, his first since leaving the 'Tonight Show,' O'Brien said, "[Leno] went and took that show back and I think in a similar situation, if roles had been reversed, I know -- I know me, I wouldn't have done that," O'Brien said.
"If I had surrendered 'The Tonight Show' and handed it over to somebody publicly and wished them well -- and then ... six months later," he continued. "But that's me, you know. Everyone's got their own, you know, way of doing things."
Leno has been struggling for a long time-His jokes are cheesey-old and boring-The Conan vs Leno thing is old and over and done with-As old as Joan Rivers is-she is still on top of her game and the studio should fire Leno and bring Joan Rivers in-She is current-funny and a breath of fresh air-Time to say goodbye to Leno as well as Conan...I do not watch the late shows anymore-I go to TLC or some other Channel and watch re-runs of Law & Order
I didn't think that Conan was the right person for the Tonight Show when they announced the plan 5 years ago. His humor is not refined for the 11:30 slot. It was funny at 12:30 because younger viewers ( Students) were up. I personally never liked Conan's brand of humor but I did watch his late show occasionally. I even watched the first week of the TS to see what changes Conan had made to himself & to the TS. I thought I was watching his late show earlier. Its a shame too because he may have had a chance too do better if he realized what his audience was- older. Now he is taking over Lopez's spot on TBS with Lopez after him. I find it ironic thats how it worked out even if they say it was what they all wanted. I wish him luck but personally feel it might hurt both Conan & George's show. I hope not because it is always good to have any options to watch.
