Barbara Walters Forced Elisabeth Hasselbeck's Apology?

Sources tell me that a genuinely remorseful Elisabeth Hasselback may have been told by 'The View' matriarch Barbara Walters that an apology was needed for her nasty comments towards Erin Andrews. And, like all smart mama bears, Barbara knew that an apology on 'The View' would be a ratings gold mine. In addition, in these tough times, Elisabeth has reached out to a pal in her time of need, and you won't believe who it is: Sarah Palin.

"Elizabeth and Sarah have remained close friends after the election," an insider tells me. "Of course, she has reached out to her friends. She needs all the support she can get right now. It's during the bad times that you get to know who your real friends are."

Elizabeth publicly apologized after her remarks on 'The View,' in which she said Andrew's convicted stalker could have avoided prison and seen almost as much by watching Erin on 'Dancing with the Stars.' However, sources tell me the apology was more Barbara Walters' idea than Elisabeth's.

"Barbara thought it would be a good idea to have Elisabeth apologize on air," said one insider. "No one is more professional than Barbara, and since the comment was made on 'The View,' the apology should also be made on 'The View.' Plus, all this drama is GREAT for ratings."

On Wednesday's 'View,' a crying Hasselbeck said that "reckless words pierce someone's heart like a sword," and apologized for what she said the day prior.

So what exactly did she say that Andrews dubbed "a slap in the face to victims of stalking and sexual predators"? Hasselbeck said: "In light of what happened and as a legal [matter] -- and as inexcusable as it was for that horrific guy to go in and try to peep on her in her hotel room ... I mean, in some way if I'm him, I'm like, 'Man! I just could've waited 12 weeks and seen this -- a little bit less -- without the prison time!'"

No word yet on what advice Elizabeth's friend Sarah had to offer, although I'm sure if Barbara has her way, we will get to hear about it very soon on, you guessed it, 'The View.'

What I love most about Liberals, is that they are strong defenders of people being able to say or think what they want....of course unless you have any conservative viewpoints.

What is wrong with the view that women should have modesty in their dress? Where are the limits?

This is not about liberals or conservatives, it is about women having the right to go where they want, be who they want, wear what they want and not be attacked or stalked. There is no way anyone would say that a man asked to be robbed because he had money on him and was out walking after dark. This is about not blaming a victim of sexual aggression.

I think it was an atttempt at humor (by Elisabeth) that fell flat. Whatever prompted the apology, it needed to be made.

Now that sums it up in the smartest way! I am bipartisan and lean to MY choices only. Elisabeth has been one of my least favorites on the show because of her "self-righteousness". However, it seems that may unfortunately be the way of the future generation! Love the view...always have. It is a way to temporarily exit the woes of the day for an hour. It is sometimes funny, stupid and informative. Let's face it people, we ALL have a right to an opinion, but, I can count on one hand my agreemant w/ Elisabeth. That's MY story and I'm stickin' to it!!!

Not me. The difference is... if Jay Leno said it (and he's too smart to say it), his show would be all over making amends, public and private. My God, you're sick. You're supporting a stalker. Do you have daughters? If they had a stalker, would you encourage to change everything about their life (how they dress, where they go, etc.) so the stalker would have controld over their life? Since first leaving Survivor Eliszabeth has changed so much that I can't stand her! I stopped watching the View along time ago. The only people left on there that I watch for is Sherry and Whoppi! Not surprised she would say something that stupid, does she not realize she's a woman and needs to defend not bash. Even women who are prostitutes have rights. Which should include not having some one taping them without their consent! Elizabeth would feel very, very different if it were her that had this happen to her! She needs a muffler on that mouth!
