Facebook Campaign Pushes for Cam-Mitchell Kiss on 'Modern Family'

If a little love from a Facebook campaign can land Betty White a gig hosting 'SNL,' then why can't it help Cam and Mitchell --
our favorite couple on TV -- lock lips? That's the idea behind a new
Facebook group hoping to influence the producers of ABC's 'Modern Family.'
The group -- called 'Let Cam & Mitchell kiss on Modern Family!' -- was launched because Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), the delightful gay couple on the hit sitcom, have never kissed, yet Mitchell's sister Claire (Julie Bowen) and her hubby Phil (Ty Burrell) have.
The Facebook group bemoans that Cam and Mitchell "have not been shown sharing even a brief kiss throughout the series' first hit season. ABC isn't afraid of gay characters, so why won't they let them show some love." It's already garnered more than 5,000 supporters, including one particularly important patron, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who tweeted his support with a reposting of the link, telling his fans, "I will sign it if you do too!"
After getting hammered by fans of the show eager to see some guy-guy PDA, the show's producers shot back, telling fans to "chillax" and be patient.
"Cameron and Mitchell are a loving, grounded, committed and demonstrably affectionate couple and have been from the beginning of the series," 'Modern Family' producers said in a statement. "It happens that we have an episode in the works that addresses Mitchell's slight discomfort with public displays of affection. It will air in the fall and until then, as Phil Dunphy would say, everyone please chillax."
Responding to the producers' missive, Brian J. Heck, creator of the Facebook campaign said, "I would agree that Cameron and Mitchell are a 'loving, grounded, committed' couple. Have they been 'demonstrably affectionate'? I feel that's up for debate ... I think that exploring Mitchell's issue with PDA is a wonderful idea for an episode, and I hope that it is handled tactfully and hysterically. It is also my fervent hope that he can get past his issues and we can see these two act as more of a 'demonstrably affectionate' couple in the future."
Heck also seems to be taking the producers' request to "chillax" as a personal affront. "While I appreciate the producers' humor in asking everyone to 'chillax,' I hope that I'm incorrect in reading it as a request to STFU," he said on the group's Facebook page. "I started this Facebook page because the lack of kissing was starting to become glaring. It didn't sit well with me, and I thought that others would agree (so far, over 5,000 do!). I did not start this out of anger, and I am not up in arms or even upset with what is one of my favorite shows on television. I just wanted to show the producers that the fans are taking notice, and that we do want more affection, within what is appropriate for the characters."
That the producers of 'Modern Family' saw fit to even comment on the still-relatively-small group only further reveals the influence these fan-driven campaigns can have.
White was offered the hosting gig on 'SNL' after producer Lorne Michaels caught wind of the massive, half-a-million strong campaign to see the 88-year-old 'Golden Girl' appear on the hit Saturday night staple -- something she'd never done in her seven-decade-long career. Her appearance was
a big hit, and Facebook has since become a hot bed of activity for fans looking to sway public opinion. Recently,
multiple campaigns have been established to push other stars toward the 'SNL' stage, including Carol Burnett and Reba McEntire.

Seeing homosexuals acting on tv is fine and acceptable . Seeing them makeout is another story. I like Betty White, but I don't want to see her make out.Brad Pitt,Simon Baker, that's another story.
NOOOOOO please don't we would have to stop watching - the humor is cute and most goes over my kids heads but NOOOOOOOOOOOOO - sharing a kiss would make us stop

NO
So let me get this 'straight,' Being gay is O.K., but being out and affectionate is not???
What kind of convoluted logic is that???
If being out and gay is 'bad' just quit watching now. There is no such thing as "half-acceptance." Either the couple is ok or they aren't. They aren't going to be any more dangerous if they love each other and kiss than if they refrain.
Or in other words, that's your 'stuff' not gay people. I have no problem watching hetero-love.
I agree NOOOOOOOOOOOO. Thanmk you Susan
I agree. I turn when I see same sex kissing. I have stopped watching shows before for this reason.
I will not be pushed to see accept this as normal.
if I am going to see a gay couple kiss on TV can we make it a mroe attractive one?
Hot guy on guy! Who's with me?

Please lets not go there ... it's a good fun show without all the drama ... Lets not ruin it with stupid ideas
Man april, you are one screwed up puppy. These two actors are straight and I sure wouldn't want to put that one to them. You lovers of the dark side need to slink off to some corner and amuse each other. Leave the rest of us alone.
For sure - don't want to see some huge lard butt sucking face with a relatively nice looking guy....
April, I agree. If this was 2 women nobody would say a thing (other than how hot it is) and I am SICK of seeing women INCLUDING straight women kissing etc. How about a little fairness. A couple of hot guys kissing, not a bad idea.
This is a major problem with Gays, they don't know how to ease people into things. They want to be right in your face, and in the end it turn people off to acceptance. Be patient, you will get your kiss.

I accept gay people, I have always voted for gay rights. I have no problems at all. But most of the world doesn't accept them, and being in your face about it isn't going to help. The sooner you realize that the sooner gays will have full equal rights.
This is a major problem with the gays? Really? So let's see...African Americans should have eased their way into equality right? Maybe Rosa Parks should have moved one seat back when told to move. Or MLK should have spoken at a local town hall rather than the National Mall.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Getting out there and showing the world that we are here, we are normal just like everyone else, and two married men will kiss probably just as much as a hetero married couple.
Telling us to "chillax" about wanting our equal rights is degrading and offensive.
In 1972, Martin Sheen and Hal Holbrook embraced on TV as lovers in That Certain Summer. Then there was Aiden Quinn in the mid-1980s, along with Dynasty. Alot more has happened since then in primetime and daytime. While there's no reason to make them as actively randy as the straight characters on the show are, a single peck on the cheek when one goes to work shouldnt really turn the show into porn.
I'm a gay man and i think this is stupid! Its a hilarious show, they don't need gimmicks!! Whats wrong with you people are you 5 years old!!!? This is just juvenile and downright ridiculous!!!

PLEASE let's not do this to this wonderful show. The reason most people love this show is because it's SO light and funny! You just LOVE Cam and Michell, JUST the way they are. Why is it that all the of the shows have to make political statements now? Let's just let this show be so we can continue to all love it. No matter how liberal many of us profess to be, if they start kissing, this show will meet it's doom. I feel sure of that.

I love gay people, but let's not turn this into a gimmick! Many heterosexual couples don't kiss always on TV shows. It's okay!!!
You are correct. I'm already not watching.
