Facebook Campaign Pushes for Cam-Mitchell Kiss on 'Modern Family'

If a little love from a Facebook campaign can land Betty White a gig hosting 'SNL,' then why can't it help Cam and Mitchell --
our favorite couple on TV -- lock lips? That's the idea behind a new
Facebook group hoping to influence the producers of ABC's 'Modern Family.'
The group -- called 'Let Cam & Mitchell kiss on Modern Family!' -- was launched because Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), the delightful gay couple on the hit sitcom, have never kissed, yet Mitchell's sister Claire (Julie Bowen) and her hubby Phil (Ty Burrell) have.
The Facebook group bemoans that Cam and Mitchell "have not been shown sharing even a brief kiss throughout the series' first hit season. ABC isn't afraid of gay characters, so why won't they let them show some love." It's already garnered more than 5,000 supporters, including one particularly important patron, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who tweeted his support with a reposting of the link, telling his fans, "I will sign it if you do too!"
After getting hammered by fans of the show eager to see some guy-guy PDA, the show's producers shot back, telling fans to "chillax" and be patient.
"Cameron and Mitchell are a loving, grounded, committed and demonstrably affectionate couple and have been from the beginning of the series," 'Modern Family' producers said in a statement. "It happens that we have an episode in the works that addresses Mitchell's slight discomfort with public displays of affection. It will air in the fall and until then, as Phil Dunphy would say, everyone please chillax."
Responding to the producers' missive, Brian J. Heck, creator of the Facebook campaign said, "I would agree that Cameron and Mitchell are a 'loving, grounded, committed' couple. Have they been 'demonstrably affectionate'? I feel that's up for debate ... I think that exploring Mitchell's issue with PDA is a wonderful idea for an episode, and I hope that it is handled tactfully and hysterically. It is also my fervent hope that he can get past his issues and we can see these two act as more of a 'demonstrably affectionate' couple in the future."
Heck also seems to be taking the producers' request to "chillax" as a personal affront. "While I appreciate the producers' humor in asking everyone to 'chillax,' I hope that I'm incorrect in reading it as a request to STFU," he said on the group's Facebook page. "I started this Facebook page because the lack of kissing was starting to become glaring. It didn't sit well with me, and I thought that others would agree (so far, over 5,000 do!). I did not start this out of anger, and I am not up in arms or even upset with what is one of my favorite shows on television. I just wanted to show the producers that the fans are taking notice, and that we do want more affection, within what is appropriate for the characters."
That the producers of 'Modern Family' saw fit to even comment on the still-relatively-small group only further reveals the influence these fan-driven campaigns can have.
White was offered the hosting gig on 'SNL' after producer Lorne Michaels caught wind of the massive, half-a-million strong campaign to see the 88-year-old 'Golden Girl' appear on the hit Saturday night staple -- something she'd never done in her seven-decade-long career. Her appearance was
a big hit, and Facebook has since become a hot bed of activity for fans looking to sway public opinion. Recently,
multiple campaigns have been established to push other stars toward the 'SNL' stage, including Carol Burnett and Reba McEntire.

I so agree, don't want it over sexed it on either end, straight or gay. Leave a good thing alone, I love the show the way it is. My husband loves the show, if they have more gay in your face, that will be the end of watching, most straight men don't want to see that, an occasional hug, ok. Lets enjoy a great show with great writing no need to sexifie or gayifie it. We know they are gay, that's apparent.
I love the show the way it is, no need to change a thing....it works, it's not broken, don't try to fix it, they have a hit. Remember the lesson learned when they tired to do that with Ellen.
Don't over sex the show on either end.

Why turn a 'fun, family' show into a serious cultural statement.
I say, "Don't do it."
Don't ruin the show!!!!!!

Why are some people so obsessed with PDA, whether it's straight or gay? Why not just watch the show and see what happens? It looks like they already responded and sounds like they had probably already discussed it but didn't want to reveal it yet. Personally i'm sick of seeing a couple of any kind going wild on all these shows now. While one kiss would be fine, anything past that just gets on my nerves cause it's like there just "has" to be some smutty love scene on some shows in almost every episode.

But don't, instead. Too much homosexuality anyway, it's out of proportion. Look, some guy was trying to tell me half the country is smoking pot: I don't believe it. Gay people are 3% of the population, now let's put this into perspective once and for all. Stop with the gay mainstream mythology. Smoke pot and kiss your lover all you want, but do it in private.

No............It's a very funny show..........don't ruin it with a kiss

you ever think about if the actors dont want to kiss?

How about a facebook campaign to get some of these stupid reality shows off the air and fight to get people with real talent on the air.

I have not watched the show, the name Modern Family was enough for me to know that gays would be in it. What do people expect with this show? Watching it being funny is the way to "ease" people into the gay lifestyle.

It's a family show...although I have nothing against gays, some of my friends are gay,I don't think Cam and Mitchell should kiss! Children watch the show, and I don't think seeing them kiss would be appropriate. Leave the show alone! It is fine the way it is! I'm sure the actors themselves would rather not kiss either! PS I saw Betty White on SNL...I love her dearly but was disappointed in the vulgar inuendo skits she did! She is a very funny and entertaining person! Stay true to yourself Betty! I love SNL but dislike the sexual content, which seems to be on every SNL show nowadays! Steve Martin, Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray Eddie Murphy and others knew how to put on a funny show that even the kids could watch!

Are you serious ? God I have lost faith in humanity. It is not like they are going to have full on sex for gods sake.
I am raising my children to accept people for who they are.Gays kissing isn't going to ruin them. But ignorant people like you are .
Two things wrong with your statement...well two I will point out.
1) Gays kissing will not ruin your children...if you think sexuality of any kind is bad, then protest the trophy wife, the affection the married couple shows, the naked under the trench coat skit...and so many others.
2) Betty White has a notoriously dirty mouth. Have you ever seen any of her Celebrity Roasts? Or how about Lake Placid, The Engagement...pretty much her entire career has been playing the nice looking lady, but that all changes when she opens her mouth.
You're so ignorant about both topics I worry about how you are raising your children. Maybe they will be influenced by better individuals...ones who think for themselves and RESEARCH before they open their mouths.
Bottom line, if the other two couples in the show kiss, and generly show affection, then so too should Mitch and Cam. Case closed.

Honest to goodness, they are a loving couple and loving couples kiss whether they are straight or gay. So kiss already, just like the zillion straight, loving couples we watch kiss on TV.

leave the show alone!! it's great, i agree with all of the above, we all know they are gay and i have been surprised nothing has been done with the way ABC is so pro gay with all their shows, Grey's Anatomy (overboard lately), Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives, Brother's & Sister's to name a few and i for one do not want to see gay affection!! ratings will suffer if you have them kiss

Are you that insecure. Do you need to see a Kiss on TV??? We don't see Claire and Phil screwing so we don't need to see Mitchell and Cam kissing.

screwing and a kiss ARE NOT EQUAL
It is bad enough to have a "gay couple". Intimacy would make it unbearable. Keep it in the closet.
