Facebook Campaign Pushes for Cam-Mitchell Kiss on 'Modern Family'

If a little love from a Facebook campaign can land Betty White a gig hosting 'SNL,' then why can't it help Cam and Mitchell --
our favorite couple on TV -- lock lips? That's the idea behind a new
Facebook group hoping to influence the producers of ABC's 'Modern Family.'
The group -- called 'Let Cam & Mitchell kiss on Modern Family!' -- was launched because Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), the delightful gay couple on the hit sitcom, have never kissed, yet Mitchell's sister Claire (Julie Bowen) and her hubby Phil (Ty Burrell) have.
The Facebook group bemoans that Cam and Mitchell "have not been shown sharing even a brief kiss throughout the series' first hit season. ABC isn't afraid of gay characters, so why won't they let them show some love." It's already garnered more than 5,000 supporters, including one particularly important patron, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who tweeted his support with a reposting of the link, telling his fans, "I will sign it if you do too!"
After getting hammered by fans of the show eager to see some guy-guy PDA, the show's producers shot back, telling fans to "chillax" and be patient.
"Cameron and Mitchell are a loving, grounded, committed and demonstrably affectionate couple and have been from the beginning of the series," 'Modern Family' producers said in a statement. "It happens that we have an episode in the works that addresses Mitchell's slight discomfort with public displays of affection. It will air in the fall and until then, as Phil Dunphy would say, everyone please chillax."
Responding to the producers' missive, Brian J. Heck, creator of the Facebook campaign said, "I would agree that Cameron and Mitchell are a 'loving, grounded, committed' couple. Have they been 'demonstrably affectionate'? I feel that's up for debate ... I think that exploring Mitchell's issue with PDA is a wonderful idea for an episode, and I hope that it is handled tactfully and hysterically. It is also my fervent hope that he can get past his issues and we can see these two act as more of a 'demonstrably affectionate' couple in the future."
Heck also seems to be taking the producers' request to "chillax" as a personal affront. "While I appreciate the producers' humor in asking everyone to 'chillax,' I hope that I'm incorrect in reading it as a request to STFU," he said on the group's Facebook page. "I started this Facebook page because the lack of kissing was starting to become glaring. It didn't sit well with me, and I thought that others would agree (so far, over 5,000 do!). I did not start this out of anger, and I am not up in arms or even upset with what is one of my favorite shows on television. I just wanted to show the producers that the fans are taking notice, and that we do want more affection, within what is appropriate for the characters."
That the producers of 'Modern Family' saw fit to even comment on the still-relatively-small group only further reveals the influence these fan-driven campaigns can have.
White was offered the hosting gig on 'SNL' after producer Lorne Michaels caught wind of the massive, half-a-million strong campaign to see the 88-year-old 'Golden Girl' appear on the hit Saturday night staple -- something she'd never done in her seven-decade-long career. Her appearance was
a big hit, and Facebook has since become a hot bed of activity for fans looking to sway public opinion. Recently,
multiple campaigns have been established to push other stars toward the 'SNL' stage, including Carol Burnett and Reba McEntire.

Then Claire and Phil should refrain from their lip sucking. It grosses me out.

The push for acceptance of pedophilia is next! Look at history, you never had widespread acceptance of homosexuality without it's uglier little buddy pedophilia. Disgusting!

Honestly, I can't understand why anyone wants to promote gay behavior on public access television... Before any of you liberals start in with the 'acceptance' or 'right to' bs, try to understand something with your pea-sized brains - Even if gays are not discriminated against, this does not provide the 'right' to promote their behavior on public access television. Bottom line - gay is NOT NORMAL, it is ABNORMAL, i.e. anything that goes against the vast majority in nature is considered ABNORMAL. There is no reason to promote ABNORMAL sexual behavior on public tv, nor should it be permitted. Allowing our children to view ABNORMAL sexual behavior is NOT a good idea... Anyone who feels this should be promoted is either gay or psychologically ill. Regardless of ANYONES OPINION, Gay is NOT NORMAL it is abnormal by definition and by NATURE. Get it thru your thick, demented, sick, perverted, pathetic skulls you bunch of mentally disturbed de-evolutionists... accpetance of Gays is one thing, promoting their behavior on public tv to the entire nation including our children is defintely wrong - only the sick, deviant, and psychologically disturbed would debate that statement...

No need to, just like i can't see breasts on TV because it will spoil your kids, i don't want to see two men kissing, that will scar my kids.

I don't particularly care to see a couple of guys kissing, but since I very rarely watch the mindless programming offered by network tv, I could not care less. Let them kiss. Let them have anal sex for all I care. There are far more important things going on in this world for me to lose any sleep over whether or not two guys I have never heard of until I read this article kiss.

In spite of all the current PC rhetoric, there is nothing natural or wholesome about homosexuslity. Displays of blatant homosexuality should not be shown to our children on television, nor should schools teach it as an acceptable lifestyle.

Joe...Homosexuality is not a Race...It is a filthy nasty spirit trying to destroy what God has made Holy...You can be delivered from this nasty spirit...I know some who have...you don't embrace it..you pray God will deliver you from this lie of the devil...Remember Sodom and Gomorroh....It is truly the last days...the Bible tells us the last days will be like Sodom and Gomorroh and the days before the flood...in that day the homosexuals tried knocking down the doors demanding to be let in...they are doing just that today...trying to force it all on us...that spirit will lead you nowhere but to Hell...Ask for deliverence in the name of Jesus and you will be delivered and saved from this untoward generation.

yrs ago no one kissed on tv. then we decided it was okay, now we are moving to gay people kissing on tv. why cant we have multiple gay people kissing on tv? how about partially naked gay people on tv. after that it will be naked people with penises and vaginas on tv. sounds like simple logic to me.

"Years ago no one kissed on TV"????? You mean before it was invented? I was watching The Honeymooners recently, and Ralph and Alice kissed on a fairly regular basis.

I see nothing wrong with a gay couple on tv kissing. If people have a problem with that, then maybe all couples on every show should not kiss or for that matter even do a bedroom scene. For instance people on soaps jump in bed with everybody ... ya that's real moral and healthy. All you people who think kissing or having sex with the same sex is wrong ... then don't have sex with the sex. Last time I looked at the calendar it was 2010 ... not 1930

AND PPL WONDER WHY OR HOW OUR KIDS IT CONFUSED...GAYS ARE FREAKS!!

Given that ABC bowed to pressure from a few religious zealots, they have yanked both gay characters from "Desperate Housewives" in an effort to make the show more "Family Oriented". Considering the plot lines and all of the sex and violence I would think that the zealots would have had issue with that but in the end, it was just about the homosexuals. You'll never see a gay kiss on ABC nor another gay character as ABC is extremely anti-gay.

Not true, there is a gay couple on Brothers & Sisters. They kiss on there, I always look away when they do, some things are just too gross to watch....
so if we get what we want to see on TV by writing a blog - i want to see Kaley Cuoco's boobies...just because some perv wants to see something does not mean it should be taken serious. this is not a gay rights issue - it is a perv issue.

This is what is wrong with the world today, you want to be gay, fine, but i dont need my kids growing up seeing this kind of crap on tv.
