Larry Birkhead Brings Sleepy Dannielynn on 'Today'

Larry Birkhead brought a sleepy Dannielynn with him to visit 'The Today Show,' where he spoke about his life after Anna Nicole Smith's tragic death and why he's now selling her memorabilia at an upcoming auction in Las Vegas. "It's like, do I want to hold on to one of Anna's dresses, or do I want to try to help Dannielynn's future?" he said. "We have money," Birkhead added, "We have more than enough to survive on. [Auction proceeds] would just supplement that." While he continued to speak about the auction, he held his daughter, who peacefully snoozed while the cameras kept rolling.

The items, which include Smith's furniture, wardrobe, artwork and even a car, will be sold by Julien's Auctions at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on June 26. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Anna Nicole and Daniel Wayne Smith Foundation.

"When Anna first passed away, I had to take every single thing out of the house and put it away in storage," he said. "It was too hard emotionally for me to be around those memories."

Birkhead refused to sell two Kentucky Derby dresses she wore when they first met, but he has since loaned them to the Kentucky Derby Museum. He admits, his life came full circle when he took his 3-year-old daughter Dannielynn to the Kentucky Derby this year, because in 2004 the Derby is where he met the toddler's mother.

"I kept that [dress] for my daughter because I know it was really special to Anna -- she would never part with it," said Birkhead. "I also kept Anna's jewelry because every little girl likes jewelry."

Smith was in a legal battle over proceeds from the estate of her dead husband, Texas billionaire Marshall, when she died in 2007 of an accidental drug overdose. Dannielynn stood to be the key beneficiary. But just this past March, a federal appeals court ruled Smith's estate was not entitled to any of the $300 million she sought from Marshall's estate, and last week, an appeals court denied a request to reconsider the decision.

During an interview on ABC, he claimed his one-time nemesis, Smith's lawyer and former boyfriend Howard K. Stern, whom he battled in court over paternity and guardianship of Dannielynn, is now a regular in his life. "At one time, he and I were not so friendly," Birkhead admits -- rather wryly.

"But now we get along. Howard is the executor of Anna's estate, so we spend a lot of time talking about estate business ... Howard truly does want what's best for Dannielynn, and there's not too many of those people floating around."

I would like to know exactly where it is that Mr. Birkhead is "parading around" his daughter? This is the first i've heard about the two of them in a long time. He just brought her on the show, and he gets attacked for doing so. If he didnt bring her, its would have been another issue to contemplate i suppose. You people make me crazy. He is obviously taking good care of her, but you cant satisfy evefyone. Opinions are like rearends. Everybody's got one.

Thank you for this story. I loved anna Nicole she was awesome. and her Daughter amazingly looks like her twin.. Larry is a wonderful father and I praise him for all he has done to protect Dannielynn. Also glad to hear that Howard is very much a part of her life as well. I would love to go to that auction...

The article is confusing about where or what the funds from the auction will go or be used for. In the first part Larry says "they have more than enough to live on", but then goes on to say, "the (Auction) proceeds would just SUPPLEMENT that." Which sounds like the money will be used to live on but later it says the proceeds will go to the foundation? Hmmm... not very clear.

"The Foundation" is in the kids name..So the money will be spent by her father, for her care.....One hopes. Too bad the kid isnt being given a choice as to whether or not she wants to be in the public eye. When she is old enough to decide, it will be too late....

I really give 'kudos' to Larry, for doing a wonderful job of raising his daughter. I think of all the 'celeb children', Dannielynn is the best looking, the prettiest of all.. Anyone can see how happy she is, by the glow on her face. You Go, Larry!!

I know this is a awful thing to say, but if Anna Nicole Smith hadn't died she would be the one exploiting and raising this beautiful little girl !

She is being raised by the better parent. More stable and definitely keeping her out of the "business" of Hollywood !

Larry is her bio father and the best of all the people involved in ANSs previous life. He is being a good dad and the child is beautiful and, thank God, healthy, and for a long time I was so afraid what they would find in her body considering what her mother ingested during pregnancy. I wish the best for Larry and Dannielynn. Larry also has the support of his family and they seem to be a family oriented group. Dannielynn is getting true love and caring.

The reporter had this all wrong. Anna Nicole died when Danilynn was a baby, not days after she was born. That was her son, Daniel, who died a few days after his baby sister was born.
