Matt Lauer and Wife Deny Breakup Rumors

Matt Lauer and his wife Annette aren't happy about all the cheating and separation rumors flying around about their marriage. In an effort to quiet the storm, both Lauer and his wife contacted PEOPLE to deny rumors and accusations that he'd moved out or cheated.

The 'Today' co-host called from France, where he is currently covering the Cannes Film Festival. "I am living in my apartment with Annette and my children as a family and a couple," Lauer said. "I have never moved out. I am not moving out. There is no truth to that."

Separately, Lauer's wife Annette also spoke out to PEOPLE. "Out of self respect, I want to stand up for our family and protect them."

Both acknowledge some rough times in their marriage. "Have we had a completely perfect, easy marriage? No. But the stories you've read over the years are not true," Lauer stated. His wife confirms difficulties too, but said, "We have worked through it."

Lauer wasn't finished after shooting down rumors he'd moved out. He also addressed the specific accusations in this week's National Enquirer about his whereabouts and behaviors during the Vancouver Olympics. He points out he didn't miss Valentine's Day with his wife and kids as suggested -- they were actually skiing with him at Whistler resort. He also said he wasn't out partying every night as reported. He said he was in bed by 7:30PM each night for daily 1:30AM wake up calls.

"This is all made up," Lauer said.

Lauer's mother-in-law Johanna Struijk confirmed the 'Today Show' host's split from his wife, but his mother Marilyn Gentry told RadarOnline that she knows nothing about a breakup.

"I was just there [at Lauer's home] for a three day weekend for Mother's Day with Matt and Annette and the three kids," she said. "They get along great and Annette and I get along great. She's a great gal."

Matt has been screwing around on his wife for years. They certainly have separated on numerous occasions and she threw him out of their home each time. Get over yourself, Matt, any day now the divorce papers will be ready for your signature. You are NOT the catch you want everyone to think you are.

Don't people have better lives then to make up all these rumors about stars. Look at all the stardard people around that has done this and nothing get publised about your affairs. This is really pising me off what people are writing about. I have faith in Matt like I also had faithin Tiger Woods. Please leave everyon alone and a=get on with your own life. I love the whole of Today show and they are all great don't mess thisup. You have got me so mad I'm seeing fire righr now. Get a life there is too much probelm here on earth we don't need other problems like your mouth going off. Shut it.

Hey, I was IN Vancouver and I saw this clown doing it. Well, carrying on in a bar with his chicky groupies anyway, you know. I didn't follow him to the hotel and watch him do it, no way. But he IS lying about his behavior, which is very bad, by the way.

They should go ahead and just divorce already. There has been talk of problems in that marriage for a very long time. I do think Matt's a bit full of himself and his wife is a lovely woman, but as we all know that doesn't matter.

I haven't watched the Today show in 2 decades. They are boring eliteists who are throughly roasted in their own egos. Matt Lauer disgusts me. His wife will be well rid of him. The others on that show that drones on forever, or so I'm told, are also vapid very shallow people we could all do without. All of the morning shows make me want to put on my running shoes and not waste my time on any of them.
