A British radio host felt the wrath of Russell Crowe on Thursday after suggesting that the actor's accent in 'Robin Hood' had "hints of Irish" in it. The Aussie star became downright ornery with Mark Lawson of BBC Radio 4's Front Row when he made this unfortunate observation, asking, "What were you thinking of?"
"You've got dead ears, mate," Crowe crowed back. "You've seriously got dead ears if you think that's an Irish accent."
Give It a Listen:
When Lawson tried to backtrack and say he only meant he heard "hints" of Irish, the beefy Crowe became even angrier, saying the host's thinking was "bollocks."
After diving right back into the discussion about the film and Robin Hood's origins, Crowe came clumsily back to the accent, telling Larson, "I'm a little dumbfounded you could possibly find any Irish in that character. That's kind of ridiculous. It's your show. Whatever."
"So you were going for a northern English?" Larson asked, to which Crowe sniped, "No, I was going for an Italian, yeah. Missed it?"
Sensing he had exhausted any chance at a productive interview with the actor, Lawson asked Crowe to respond to published claims he refused to say certain famous lines in 'Gladiator' -- which is when Crowe simply walked out of the radio booth.
He said as he exited: "I don't get the Irish thing brother, I don't get it at all ..."
Watch a clip from the film ... catch any Irish in there?
Crowe appears to be an extremely arrogant individual. I can't imagine why he would be so offended at the suggestion of a slight Irish accent. Why? Maybe the next interviewer will suggest that he just climb down off that high-horse. Mate.
He's always been this way. I like his movies, but, man, does this guy have some anger issues. He's probably more upset that someone unintentionally implied he did a mediocre job with his accent than anything to do with it specifically being an Irish accent.
But, no, I don't hear any Irish in that short clip containing a few very short, softly-spoken lines.
Yes. I can definitely hear the irish lilt to which the interviewer was referring. Perhaps Robin Hood spent a few years in Ireland! Could have happened. Mr. Hood was quite the traveler. Lighten up Russell!
My question is why the stupid interviewer asked such a moronic question. It DOESNT MATTER what accent the character in Robin Hood had. Since he was a fictional character to start with. With 2000 odd years to interbreed, I really doubt the accent is accurate to that time period anyway.
Russell Crowe is a fantastic actor. Every single film I've seen him in I am transported and forget that I'm watching a film. That's all I require - transport.
No metro sexual girlie men for me. Regardless of looks - RC is the best out there.
I agree with you 100% Gina, Crowe is type casted, he can not act at all, his acting roles are angry or mentally off characters, mostly violent, just like him, He is an arrogant jerk!
He may be a pain, but hardly a loser. He makes millions to pretend to be other people. He gets to go all over the world promoting his movies. He lives the good life. His every move in public is instant news. Maybe he's pretending to be upset. Didn't take this stuff at face value.
Any one who donot like russel is just jealous of him like GINA prehap he or she is a want to be actor or actress who miss there chance of fame 20 years ago and is too old for acting shame on you for that and get a life
Big Dee ... we are jealous of Crowe, now I am laughing, he is put in front of a camera to prance around and pretend, anyone can do it, the better the pretender the better the actor. No Thanks, there is nothing real about that life !!

You obviously know as much about acting as you do spelling. Actors are of many ages and backgrounds, dummy.
You get a life, or preferably, get an education so you don't continue going around being an arrogant, idiotic FOOL.
Definitely more than a hint of irish in some lines he says.
I thought RC was great in Gladiator, then, I watched himin other roles and realized he's just great at being RC. He's like John Wayne. Just good in one type of role with different character names.
Yes, it did have a slight Irish ring to it. I like Russell's movies, but he has a huge chip on his shoulder. I wouldn't want to work with or for a man like him.

He should have thrown a phone at him. That's the idiot Crowe's M.O. after all.

Lets face it, he really isn't that great of an actor and needs a reality check.
