Rep: 'Single Ladies' Girls Did 'Nothing Provocative'

Earlier this week, a YouTube video surfaced from The World of Dance competition in which a group of young -- and we mean really young -- girls wearing midriff-baring tops, short skirts and black stockings dance to Beyonce's 'Single Ladies.' The dance troupe, called Precision Dance, hails from Orange County, and definitely "put a ring on it" during the competition in Pomona on April 10.
Larry Peters, executive vice president of The Hozman Group and rep for the dance competition, says the controversy was blown out of proportion. "There has been a great deal of controversy regarding this performance, and it has been taken out of context. It is a little sensitive now, to say the least," Peters tells
PopEater.
"All the dance troupes do so many different dances, it is a very personal choreography and expression for every troupe and individual. These girls were amazing that day," Peters says, adding, "They were two minutes of an eight hour performance event."
Melissa Presch, the mom of one little dancer and Cory Miller, the father of another child in the group spoke to
Inside Edition about the controversy. "I'm shocked, quite frankly, that people would suggest such things and say such things about 8 and 9 year old girls," said Melissa Presch claiming the girls got their moves from the 'Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel' movie -- not Beyonce's music video.
Miller added, "As a father, when you're watching your kid, no. You're looking at it as a proud kid who has really high energy, who doesn't really know what she's doing."
Peters was in the audience during the group's performance and admits, "It was the very first WOD event I had ever attended, and I can tell you the cheering and screaming you heard on the video was from other parents and dance teams that were just blown away by their dance performance and precision. There was NOTHING provocative about what they were doing."
The
World of Dance Tour is the largest national urban and street dance competition, and in 2010 is taking place in nine major markets throughout the U.S. Top dance troupes partake in competition, which focuses on the art of street dancing and today's new age choreography -- embracing urban dance and youth lifestyle.
The video brought mixed reactions from media outlets across the Internet. PopEater's Facebook fan Christina Powers admits, "As a coach for national champion competition dance teams at the high School level, I blame the coach. This is completely inappropriate even for high school girls."
Meanwhile
The Huffington Post writes, "Age appropriate or not, there is denying it's one heck of a performance."
Kate Ward from
EW writes, "Miley, you've got nuthin' on these girls ... But if little girls must gyrate on stage, is it absolutely essential they wear midriff tops? Even Beyonce and her back-up dancers were more covered up than this!"

I believe these girls have a wonderful, creative, artistic flair and if you have your mind in the right place, there was NOTHING wrong with their dance. The girls loved what they did and it should be appreciated for the art form it is and not something provacative or filthy.
You have to admit, they gave it their all out on stage, true the outfits are not proper and not very tastefull but the dance was awesome, nice moves, even though they are children, they could have toned it down since they are so young, but all in all, I think they did a great job, I wish I could do that with at least half of their enegery.
From my point of veiw the girls were doing good but who ever coached them were not looking out for what might happen to the little girls in the furture , there,s alot of peaople out there looking at something else . It's good for the girls to get all the exercise out of dancing .
I do not know why everyone is making a big deal about this. I remember when you would look at these little girls and you would smile and think how cute they are. I think all the people that think that it is more are either perverted or just jealous that their kid did not not have the opportunity to be in the lime life. Those girls are amazing and I really think they have a future in the entertainment field.
I have a young daughter myself and I could never let her dance or dress up like that, to be viewed by strangers. I'm sure hundreds of phedophiles were having the time watching those girls. Shame on those parents, they should be the guardian angels, their children's protector and not expose them. THEY HAVE NO EXCUSE AT ALL. Alvin and the Chipmunks(?), those are cartoon characters, NOT the FLESH of your daughters.
Wow this is pedophile heaven. I can see all the nice pedophilias just eating up YouTube watching this. What were the parents thinking especially in today's world. With all the freaking weirdos we know are out there, why did they allow their young daugthers to do this? UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
What portion of the JonBenét Ramsey lesson did the parents of these children miss? There is NO SUCH THING as a "sexy" little girl... except to perverts who dress them up as such, choreograph them, or drag them off to do great damage to them. This video has made these little girls targets. The parents should be charged with child exploitation!! The instructor / choreographer should be investigated as a possible pedophile !!
Most of the dance was OK. The parts that were mimicking 'Beyonce' were very trashy looking. Not so sure they (kids)know what is/they are doing. The 'simulating' gyrations that Knowles always does, looked not only gross but quite also a little 'provocative'. Some parts of the dance though, were very good. The costumes were just plain ugly and added nothing to the dance. But the outfits may have been better than the original video of Knowles.
What an ego that man has!
WE, millions of people, don't know what those dance move mean?
Millions of us are "misinterpreting" them?
Are you serious?!?
We know EXACTLY what it means.
My husband and I practice some of those "dance" moves several nights a week!
This is the worst parenting I've seen in a long time. How can they justify this? Of course those little girls don't know what they were doing (though they will most likely find out soon).
BUT, it is exactly for this reason that it is the PARENTS' JOB to protect their babies and show them what is right and what is wrong. SHAME on ALL of their parents for allowing this disgrace.
The girls are excellent dancers and then some to say the least. To create this energy for these girls at his age, and give them this expression before they are emotionally mature to understand the feelings that go with it at an appropriate age might be a mistake. I am wondering what effect and affect it will have on them at this age and in the future. And what unexpressed part of the adult or adults who put this out there are they projecting onto these girls. My daughter grew up in the Britney Spears era and as a young teenager wanted to dress like her. I checked in with some mothers of girls her age and they let their daughters dress like Britney. I asked myself if they let their daughters dress this way just because they couldn't.
When I read the story before watching the video I was expecting something much different. Kids are learning things younger and younger, and though it may seem like kids in society are too young for things, the awful truth is they aren't. These little girls weren't dancing as dirty as they COULD have been, and for DANCERS I don't think the dress was inappropriate either. I liked everything about the performance, and I don't care where the choreography came from. Girls, keep doing what you're doing, people with their minds in the gutter will get over it and you'll be some great freaking dancers!!
Either you see these children as sex toys and are aroused or envious that you cannot do their moves. I, as a parent of 5 daughters, was amazed how the gils were able to pull it off together. It is hard work to get an 8 year old to do anything. It is scary to see people sexualize a performance. What is next, girls can't go to the beach, waterparks or anywhere else unless in a gown......
I'm sure the little girls were having a great time, and didn't know that they were provocative and would turn perverts on.
I'm a 25 year old woman, and I think all woman like to feel somewhat sexual, however 8 year olds should not be sexual. The only place I would ever wear that outfit is at a strip club, and I'm sure some people would mistake me as a stripper.
I just hope these girls did not walk around town in those outfits. Those outfits make them look way too womanly.
These girls are 7 years old, bottom line no 7 year old should be wearing these outfits let alone be dancing like their in a night club.
Let's see where these girls are in a few years, teenage moms? This is what happens when kids start recongizing their sexuality at such a young age.
Any parent that would allow their child to do this, isn't a good parent.
No wonder you have so many problems with kids, Let them be and enjoy their youth without throwing them in adult situations.,You call these PARENTS ???????? I don't think so
@ Abby, I think you may need to look closely. If they are wearing leotards and tights, then why is it you can very vividly see belly buttons and butt cheeks!?! Bump and grind dancing, while very enjoyable as an adult, it is NOT approriate for girls this age no matter how they're dressed!!!
Ok well what if some pervert happens to see this. I am just saying that we are allowing our youngins to get away with so much now a days its sad. Everything in this world is sex sex sex. If we deny that then we are living in a shell. For young girls to be dancing like that to a song that is talking about something they wont even have experience in for a few more years atleast is like saying to your son , " ok I know youre only 8 but soon youll know what to do with this playboy."
Kids that age are not suppose to be shaking their booties and dancing around like strippers! Who in the world taught them that dance to begin with! That dance is something that should be for adults only in a night club or Vegas act! Definetely not for small children to be prancing around like that. That's a long way from Shirley Temple!
I agree this routine, and dress attire for these young 8, and 9 year olds was a little bit inappropriate, There are other routines the choreography could have came up with that was appropriate for this age group. Sorry this was not acceptable, moms what were you thinking surely not of your little ones.
you're so uptight; they look like very talented little girls to me; unless you're a perv there is not a single sexual thing about that routine; little girls wear bikinis too; still not sexual unless you're a perv... pervs are the parents problem not yours; close your puritan, ignorant, close minded eyes if it bothers you... you and so many others on here are fools
