Tom Cruise Returns To Oprah's Couch, Doesn't Hop

After Tom Cruise's 2005 couch jumping incident on Oprah (yes, it's infamous enough for its own subheading on Cruise's Wikipedia page), it was a surprise (relief?) to see the actor keeping his feet on the floor and his hands off the host today. Cruise visited the show to talk about his new film, 'Knight and Day,' with co-star Cameron Diaz.

Part of the conversation drifted to Cruise's daughter with Katie Holmes, Suri, who, after being spotted with an $850 Ferragamo purse, seems to have become a fashion icon for celebrity children. "She likes to dress herself and wears whatever she wants to wear," Cruise told Oprah. "She wants to wear it, she wears it ... a girl wants to wear what she wants to wear. I'm not gonna tell her different. She's got great taste. She tells me what to wear."

"Every time we see her, she is wearing a different outfit," Oprah chimed in. She went on to ask about how Suri responds to paparazzi, who seem to hound her as much as mum and pop.

"It's been there her whole life," Cruise said. "She's just such a happy, easy, fun girl. She just deals with it. We don't make it a problem. We don't get nervous about it. Katie's a very relaxed person, and you just deal with it."

You know, I get why folks do not like Tom: Scientologist, weird outburst 5 years ago on Oprah, kinda has the frat boy look with the smile that says I am all right and nothin will bring me down....Let's not forgot that people still flock to his movies- All the same roles? Hmm, well, The Mission Impossible trilogy is supposed be the same role. Collateral, a hit man running the streets? Different. Color of Money, Rain Man, Jerry McGuire, War of the Worlds, Minority Report- while we may not like the movies Tom is in, you cannot say these roles "are all the same". By the way, Tom Cruise = films making money. This is why is an icon. Will he win an academy award? Probably not soon if at all, but he is successful and people do see his movies.

For the record, I've always thought what Tom did on Opray the first time was only a stunt to please Katy. It brought to mind something Nancy Travis said to Tom Selleck in "3 Men And A Little Lady": she wanted a man who would make a fool of himself over her. And Tom sure did that. I'm still a fan.

I would like, just once, for someone to mention that Zahara was carrying a more expensive purse two years ago in NYC... and I am sure the place where Pitt and Jolie purchased their children's clothing in Paris was not an inexpensive stores... could we stop focusing in on only ONE child and question all or none of the celebrity children??

Tom is an immature little boy w/a 10, 000 lb. ego. I quit watcing hm, after he, so arrogantly, told Matt Lauer how ignorant, he(Matt) was about Scientology and how he knew all about it. You just don't use your ego to prove you're a know-it-all to the Host of a show in which you are a guest, to try to look intelligent. I've never watch a show or movie, in which, Tom Cruise appeared and never will. How does Katie stand him? And he has no idea, how he is hurting little Suri, by giving her everything she wants. That's not fair, to the child. She deserves to have guidelines to grow up by, but then she's Katie's child, too and it is up to Katie to call him out on his parenting errors. Poor Suri, and shame on Tom!
