John Travolta's Dogs Killed in Airport Accident

An airport service vehicle struck and killed two dogs belonging to John Travolta last week at Bangor International Airport in Maine. The accident occurred last Thursday morning; city officials confirmed the story to the
Bangor Daily News today.
"The airport takes safety very seriously," airport director Rebecca Hupp told the BDN, adding the facility generally does not name its visitors for the sake of privacy. "Many flights come and go without incidents. Clearly, this is an unfortunate accident. Our deepest sympathies are with the family."
Travolta and wife Kelly Preston own a home on Isleboro, Maine -- the family was traveling by way of Bangor. The actor's publicist, Paul Bloch, told the BDN that he was not aware of the incident.
Bangor interim city manager Bob Farrar e-mailed the nine city councilors about the accident late last week. The city released the following statement to the BDN:
"At approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2010, an airplane carrying members of the John Travolta family landed at BIA. While there, two small dogs were taken for a walk by someone who is not a family member. An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the airplane and did not see the dogs. Unfortunately, the dogs were struck and killed. The airport is investigating the accident. Out of respect for the family's privacy the city will make no further comment."
Travolta, who starred in 'Old Dogs' in 2009 and voiced a computer-animated canine in 2008's 'Bolt,' is a serious pilot who often flies himself into Bangor's modest airport. The Bangor Daily News was unsure whether Travolta was flying the plane on the day of the incident.

This is terrible. I know how hard it is to lose a pet, they are like family. I feel so bad for him. How could the person walking the dogs not see the airport truck approaching??

And so soon after losing his son. Your heart has to break for this guy even if you're not a fan. No one deserves this.
I just lost my dog the day before on may 12 it's like loosing a part of myself, my heart goes out to the Travolta's has to be hard, 2 dog's at the same time WOW THAT HAS TO BE HARD
How could the service truck driver not see the person walking the dogs. IMHO the driver was driving too fast or not paying attention.
I feel so bad for them too. We have lost pets but never in a tragic way like that.
My heart goes out to him and his family..
Seriously! I mean from what I'm reading it sounds like the person walking those dogs was not paying attention. I feel so bad after losing his son last year and now two dogs? That's hard.
I agree. I know we weren't there, but weren't the dogs on leashes? I would have more of a tendancy to look in the direction of the person who was in charge of walking those dogs than the guy driving the airport service truck. Besides, the article said that it was approx 1 am in the morning. Even if the tarmac is well lit, there might still be shadows and blind spots especially near the plane. Poor John and Kelly. My heart goes out to them.
They must've been on a long leash if the transport vehicle hit the dogs and not the person walking them.
You get what you pay for. People whine so bad about the airlines but STILL fly. Goes to show you how STUPID people are for flying. You deserve what you get for flying.
And why wasn't the person hurt? Where were the dogs? Were they on those dangerous retractable leashes?
OMG! How much more can this man take??? My prayers are with the travolta family, I know how important our pets are to all of us can't express how sorry we are.. RIP PUPPIES

The story doesn't make mention of the dogs being on a leash. If they weren't, well I guess leash laws don't apply to the tarmac.
Man that must be some far out stuff your smoking there michael ol boy,,take another deep hit and go to that far far away place where your happy, cause you dont belong here in this world

This is so awful! I'm sure they loved them as family members, as do I mine! What kind of "accident" can this be, safty at the airport taken serious my eye! This could have been small children or anyone for that matter. Heaven forbid anyone in a wheelchair out for a walk. I feel so bad for John and his family. How do you begin to replace... well they just can't!

Only employees of the airport or airlines whose job requires them to be on a tarmac should be there no matter how small the airport. Children, anyone in a wheelchair, etc., have no business on an airport tarmac. The person walking the dogs probably meant well but should not have been there. Were the dogs on a leash? I doubt it since only they were hit. If they had been on a leash the person with them would have been seen and could have kept the dogs out of the way of the vehicle.
