John Travolta's Dogs Killed in Airport Accident

An airport service vehicle struck and killed two dogs belonging to John Travolta last week at Bangor International Airport in Maine. The accident occurred last Thursday morning; city officials confirmed the story to the
Bangor Daily News today.
"The airport takes safety very seriously," airport director Rebecca Hupp told the BDN, adding the facility generally does not name its visitors for the sake of privacy. "Many flights come and go without incidents. Clearly, this is an unfortunate accident. Our deepest sympathies are with the family."
Travolta and wife Kelly Preston own a home on Isleboro, Maine -- the family was traveling by way of Bangor. The actor's publicist, Paul Bloch, told the BDN that he was not aware of the incident.
Bangor interim city manager Bob Farrar e-mailed the nine city councilors about the accident late last week. The city released the following statement to the BDN:
"At approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2010, an airplane carrying members of the John Travolta family landed at BIA. While there, two small dogs were taken for a walk by someone who is not a family member. An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the airplane and did not see the dogs. Unfortunately, the dogs were struck and killed. The airport is investigating the accident. Out of respect for the family's privacy the city will make no further comment."
Travolta, who starred in 'Old Dogs' in 2009 and voiced a computer-animated canine in 2008's 'Bolt,' is a serious pilot who often flies himself into Bangor's modest airport. The Bangor Daily News was unsure whether Travolta was flying the plane on the day of the incident.

Maybe airport personnel was walking the dogs because why the need to write the city council and make the big announcement? Can you say lawsuit? That being said I feel sorry for the Travolta's but I see what Michael is saying and agree....

How sad. We had two dogs run over and killed a few years back and it's a horrible thing. I do think however that after his terrible loss a few months ago, the loss of two of his pets is manageable. We need to keep things in perspective and remember that all the money in the world can't buy health or happiness (okay, maybe a little happiness :)

Xenu was driving the pickup truck. Somone should tell Tom Cruise and Scientology that their intergallactic alien nemesis is in Bangor.

Security, where r u. U have to be very careful when driving. U never know what is in front of u. Some people need to pay attention to what they r doing. Slow down and take your time. I was at a gas station yesterday and some guy just speeded into the place. No need to be in a hurry.

Poor John Travolta. His family has experienced so much tragedy lately.

I've seen these service vehicles driving way too fast on the tarmac. Slow down. It seems like everybody behind the wheel these days thinks they're a Nascar driver. Speed kills many many more people than DUI's. Speeding should be a felony.

Did the airport charge an additional service fee?

How terrible....absolutely terrible....sympathys to the Travoltas'....nothing will stop the sadness now.....but I would bet that the person walking those dogs should be responsible....I bet you money whoever it was, wasn't paying proper attention to his/her job....inexcusable....given the situation.....at night and a busy environment....it wouldn't matter to me how "bad" they felt...obviously totally irresponsible....(stupid fits well too) !!!

This is really heartbreaking. Our family dog died 11 months ago. He was part of our family for 14 years, 4 months, and 1 day. I still miss him, and look for him every day in his favorite spots. :(

God, the idiot wasn't even watching where he was going, poor John and Kelly, how awful.

I feel for the family, they lost their son not long ago and now two dogs which are family too. I hate that dogs only live 10 to 20 years, you get so attached after a decade of love and devotion. But life goes on and then your number is called and hopefully you go to a better place, Heaven or hell depending on what kind of person you were.

WOULD MY DOGS GET THE SAME STORY

Can't blame the service truck driver. The dogs were off the leash at 0130 on an active airport ramp area.

How much more tragedy can this family take? First his son and now his two beloved dogs?

Have always loved John and Kelly. First their beautiful boy and now two beloved pets - such a shame. I feel so sad as I imagine myself in their shoes. I own 5 dogs and they to me are like family members. This story breaks my heart. HUGS to you both
