Stephen Colbert Snubbed By Colbert, Georgia

While fans are usually fighting to give Stephen Colbert a key to their city or name local sports teams after him, the city of Colbert, Ga., will not invite the comedian to its Fourth of July parade.

The host of Comedy Central's 'Colbert Report' is known for his satirical portrayal of a conservative Republican pundit.

"His satire is probably something that we didn't feel suited our small-town atmosphere," Colbert mayor Chris Peck told the Augusta Chronicle. "We're not above taking a good joke. I just don't think the Fourth of July was the appropriate venue for that."

It should be noted, the city isn't named after the TV personality. While the talk show host now has a spider, ice cream flavor and airplane named after him, the city of Colbert, located about 80 miles east of Atlanta, is not.

In fact, it isn't even pronounced the same way. One man tried to change that, though, when he started a petition to alter the pronunciation of the city's name from "cull-bert" to "cole-bear," in honor of Stephen.

Stephen shouldn't worry about the snub, though, as he has a long list of honors attached to his name already.

March 20, 2007, was declared Stephen Colbert Day in Oshawa, Canada. He was knighted by the queen of Jordan, given an honorary doctorate from Knox College and holds the key to Columbia, South Carolina. There is a Ben & Jerry's ice cream named Stephen Colbert's AmeriCone Dream. Virgin America named one of their planes Air Colbert. And a species of spider is even called Aptostichus stephencolberti.

Looks like Colbert, Georgia, isn't interested in following the trend.

our young men and women did NOT die for what happened on 9/11; they died for lies.. apparently so ingrained that 9yrs after the fact some ignorant people still don't realize that NONE of those attackers were iraquis nor have anything to do with iraq what so ever !! although i live on the west coast, i do agree there are plenty of southerners who are intelligent, generous, hospitable.. just all around super nice people.. who are nothing like you and would not resort to calling others names just b/c you can't argue intelligently w/ those you disagree with.

walker......so hopefully this means we will never see you anywhere near the south... sounds good to me...you are probably one of the first to scream racism also....but that is ok, because it is you and your opinion... wish we could get rid of all your kind in the south...
