Watch Out, Port Charles! James Franco Is Returning to 'General Hospital'

It's official: James Franco is headed back to Port Charles, PEOPLE reports. And he's planning on stirring up lots of mayhem while he's there.

Franco first hit the 'General Hospital' scene for a two-month stint last fall. His character was well received by audiences and ratings for the ABC soap opera increased during his visit. He'll return to the set next month, ABC confirmed.

The actor is eager to reprise his role. "Working on 'General Hospital' was a great experience," the 32-year old told PEOPLE. "I love the cast, writers, directors and producers. They have become a new family for me. I can't wait for the work we will do this summer.

In a statement released by 'General Hospital' executive producer Jill Farren Phelps, she said, "We are so thrilled to welcome James back to 'General Hospital.' We had such a great time with him and are very excited that he decided to return to Port Charles to take care of unfinished business."

Franco and the producers are staying mum on plot lines but expect some mystery... maybe even murder. "The hospital will be in peril," reads a statement from producers.

Franco is currently studying at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts--with a specific focus on filmmaking. He was also recently been accepted to Yale for a Ph.D program in English. Seems like a quick visit to Port Charles is a great way to spend the summer before returning to full-time student status in the fall.

Happy to see Jame's Franco returning to GH but also want to see Jason returning, and hopefully finding a way to get out of prison since he did the right thing for Michael. If Jason were to not return to GH I would no longer watch the show even thought I love Sonny and the rest of cast. Jason brings alot to the show and wouldn't want to see him replaced. Tell us, GH, that this is just a temporary thing with Jason!!!!!!

Ugh! Love James Franco, but did not enjoy his first stint on GH. Audiences did not love it, and ratings only increased the week he left.

Not looking forward to this at all. GH doesn't even write for the cast that they have; they don't need to keep adding characters to the mix. Especially serial killers; they've got more than enough of those.

Thank you! I thought maybe I had imagined the fact that ratings did NOT get better when Franco was there. In fact, most people considered the whole Franco thing to be a flop! I for one am NOT looking forward to his return. It has nothing to do with the actor and everything to do with the poor writing.

Franco is a God awful actor, so I'm sure he fits right in on daytime soaps. I hope he stays on TV and stops polluting movie screens once and for all.
