NYC Matchmaker Calls Patti Stanger's Move to East Coast 'Disgusting'

Bravo's 'Millionaire Matchmaker' Patti Stanger is bringing her 99% success rate to the Big Apple, and one New Yorker is protecting her turf, reports the NY Daily News.

"It's disgusting," said Janis Spindel, NYC's current top matchmaker. "I'm the real millionaire matchmaker. When Bravo called me seven years ago to do a demo reel for a show, I said that's not how this business works."

According to Spindel, her business has less of an emphasis on money: "Unlike Patti, I don't deal with 'gold diggers,' even though my men are of an astronomical worth. Celebrities, politicians, you name it. The kind of people who would never go on television. I have two of her former clients who are beyond angry with her."

Of course, the notoriously outspoken Stanger has something to say about that. "Janis Spindel works with normal guys and normal girls," she said. "I take on a lot of celebrity clients. And a lot of them are my friends. It's hard finding love when you're in the spotlight, with the paparazzi."

"Look, I like other matchmakers," she continued. "But I think a lot of what they say is just jealousy. A lot of them have copied my business layout."

But Spindel does have one reason to thank Stanger. "Since her show has been on the air, my business has gone up 41 percent," said Spindler.

But there's something else Stanger needs to worry about -- the law. "There are matchmaking laws in New York that they don't have in other states, like in California," says one source. "New York is the strictest for matchmaking as a profession because there's a fine line between a setup and an escort service."

While clients who participate in the Bravo TV show don't pay for Stanger's services, she usually charges a minimum of $55 thousand.

Ha!!! I think you're absoulutely right. California is bankrupted and alot of her potential millionaires are either broke or holding their money as close to them as possible. Now she's going after the big ceo's on Wall Street. She's a joke!!!

What a joke Patti is!!! 99% success rate just by having 2 people go on one date? I must have at least that rate with setting up people I know. How about those who got married through Patti. Maybe 2%????? I can't believe people watch these garbage shows regularly! They have NO life!
