Parents Group Targets Shat 'My Dad Says' and CBS

Fresh off complaining about a particularly disgusting episode of 'Family Guy,' the Parents Television Council has now set their sights on taking down '$#*! My Dad Says,' a new CBS show starring William Shatner.

In their complaint, posted to its website, the PTC charged CBS was showing "contempt for families and the public" by inserting an expletive into the name of the new show, which is based on a popular Twitter feed. Instead of the word, CBS uses a series of symbols.

The group vows to challenge the broadcast license of any CBS affiliate that airs the program before 10 PM. CBS has scheduled the comedy for Thursdays at 8:30. It stars Shatner as a father whose odd-ball sayings are broadcast on Twitter by his son.

PTC president Tim Winter said there is a distinction between the new show's "in-your-face" title and the practice of tolerating accidental, or "fleeting," profanity slips on the public airwaves.

"The title of this show is the opposite of fleeting -- it is bold, shameless and in-your-face," he said.

CBS pointed out that the Twitter feed, which uses the obscenity, has more than 1.5 million followers and has spawned a book.

"It will in no way be indecent and will adhere to all CBS standards," spokesman Phil Gonzales told the AP.

But Winter was adamant, saying his group "will not stand silent and allow this program title to become the new accepted norm."

He added that the PTC "will wage an unrelenting campaign against every network advertiser that chooses to support this program; and in this instance, we will wage an unrelenting campaign against every local advertiser sponsoring the program at the affiliate station level."

If you don't like it then turn the channel and stop telling me what i can watch and can't tell the kids bedtime

I tried turning the channel and no matter what station I got, there was more trash. So I cut the cord on the TV 25 years ago and my children and I have skipped all of the low intellect programing. So waste all the time you want and have no personal guidelines except what other people tell you is acceptable. But if you cannot figure out anything else to do with your time, then go ahead and watch whatever you want and let your children continue to be TV morons. It gives my children and grandchildren an advantage.

Im 64 and I love what he writes it reminds me of my dad back in the 50's and 60's. I'm not the a lot of people who can their dad saying thingthing like that so like

Both my parents were like that( don't like it don't watch it!--They NEVER CENSORED ANTHING I READ OR WATCHED, I learned a lot of what I shouldnt do! I never got pregnant out of wedlock,stayed in shcool,went to college and knew more about the world than those who's parents tried to keep the wolrld a surreal sterile for them. Most had no idea how to live on thrir own of handle money.
I could aways talk to my parents.I didn't have to worry my parents would judge me--didapline-yes--worse disapointed in me, but I could talk to them. No coincidence that the cathic school across the steet had more juvies and pregnat girls.
You want to do what best for your child teaching to limit the wolrd, and not letting them ahave open dialog, will get you kids that keep secrets, and rebel, oh please PTC grow up. Start parenting stop blaming.

Furthermore, I'm a firm believer that YOU and ALL parents are responsible for monitoring what YOUR children view on TV! If you don't like something, turn the damn station or turn it off!

Hmmmmm......would be enlightening to know which ultra-conservative christian group financially controls your group? Just wondering...................

Reminds me of the whole Donnie Osmond thing about Gaga's 'Telephone' video. If you don't want your kids to see it, then try something new and different: PARENTING! There ya go! People, you had those kids, then do your JOB and BE a parent. Don't expect the rest of the audience to fit into your concept of what the world should be. And like Osmond, if he and his family were actually parents, they'd not leave an 18 yr old to live on his own in Hollywood.

Yup - sounds harsh but it's the reality of it all. Stop imposing your 'crap' censorship ideas on the rest of the world.

I actually liked Donny for a while, especially when his did his memoir, then Dancing With The Stars. Now he just sounds like another hasbeen in desperate need of attention - even if it really is trendy to hate on Gaga. William Shatner doesn't seem any better with this show. Then again, I'll preach to the choir: don't like it, watch something else, don't let the village baby your kids.

Well said! I agree with you 100%. When my kids were younger and I didn't like what they wanted to watch, We didn't watch it or we went outside for some playtime. I monitored my childrens t.v. time and it seems to me that if you don't want to see it don't watch it. If it is offensive then it will be cancelled. I for one think it will be a reflection of what is happenning today and will be very funny.

Just change the title and push the time back. Obey the law and we'll all be OK or move it to channel KRAP. FCVC has rules about obscenities and why shout we pollute our kids' minds while they run through permutations of what starts with S and has 4 letters.

Honestly they shouldn't have to move the showtime or change the title... it doesn't matter how late you play it, if it's popular enough children are going to be aware and furthermore i don't know many children that wouldn't understand the title in an instant. Be a parent and stop relying on the PTC. Lord knows they'll be on to another act of "contempt for families and the public" by next week.

You dim bulb. That's exactly WHY they should change it, OR push it back! Children will not only understand it, but they'll begin thinking ::Hmmm A swear on t.v.? I guess it's not such a big deal anymore!:: THEN, it's only a mmatter of time before children younger, and younger begin cursing. Eventually in front of their parents!

Seems to me thats why we have PARENTS to watch and teach their children. I was a single mom and raised 4 children and they are respectful, responsible, and productive adults and parents now. (And No non of them got pregnant as a teen). Its called being a parent. Being there (emotionally always if not physically), setting ground rules, showing and demanding respect, and letting them know what will and will not be tolerated. A TV show is not going to change basic values. Especially if the parent or parents lived by the values too.

My mate watches some awful 'reality' cops shows, car crashes ect.... If as a parent you weren't onto what your children are watching then its all on u not the networks. Another thing is if they arent watching it at home, what are they watching at their friends' houses......wouldnt you like to know. I'm almost 40 and i remember bugs bunny and the roadrunner, now no one thought it was dangerous then!!!
