Dora the Explorer: Arrested for Illegal Immigration?

Dora the Explorer's mug shot isn't pretty. She's got a black eye, a bleeding lip, and is holding a sign listing her crimes. So, what has the little brown-haired cartoon character been arrested for? Illegal border crossing and resisting arrest.

Arizona's controversial new immigration law has recently stirred up a lot of attention and outcry around the country. And in an effort to really drive their point home, campaigners against the law are using a doctored image of Dora the Explorer as a symbol of their cause. They are using it, and other similarly doctored pictures, to question the character's immigration status and country of origin, the Associated Press reports.

Taking it a step further, several websites including The Huffington Post, have even posted faux articles narrating Dora's capture and arrest. Another photo making the rounds on Facebook features the character catapulting over the fence at the US/Mexico border.

The image was actually created sometime last year by Debbie Groban who designed it for a contest on fake news website FreakingNews.com. Since then, those campaigning against the new Arizona law have been using it.

Nickelodeon is trying its best to avoid fueling the fire by declining to comment on Dora's background. Researchers and the public are trying to find clues to help determine her birthplace or citizenship--from questioning who voices the character (two actresses have; one is Peruvian, the other is Cuban,) to dissecting the fictional location of her show. But no one is confirming or denying anything.

The Latina cartoon character has been a popular and important part of Nickelodeon's programming for almost 10 years. On her show, she teaches young children the alphabet, how to count, colors, and beginner Spanish phrases.

Why don't they show the dead bodies of the Border Patrol men who were ambushed and killed by a Mexican drug cartel on the USA side of the border, which is real instead of a made up cartoon character? Look at the Mexican gang presence in USA already.I got a better idea.Why don't the pro illegal immigrants move to Mexico.

Art is art and it represents whatever the artist was thinking at that time. The "666 666 666" is representing that the police are treating "Dora" like she's the devil. If someone gets arrested, they don't choose their numbers, they're given to them. That is why the picture is an appropriate choice for the AZ law controversy. Also hence the t-shirts "Do I LOOK illegal?".

All this bad stuff isn't happeing in America for no reason. They have to pay for so much karma. (stealing land from Indians, stealing Africans for slavery and more). Watch the history channel - you'll know that mexicans are returning to their land.American history books won't tell the truth about a damn thing.

I say the we sould place the right to be here in the order of Americas' first native people.
1 ) The Native American Indians, Hobey ,Aztec, cherokee, camanche, Apache, etc.
2 ) The Sapnish Conquistadores
3) the Mexican ( Spanish- Indian Mix )
4) the the old Americans imigrants who now have stolen almost all the land .
Don't get me wrong. I beleive that Gods allows such things to happen but for the good. If u try to take the the people away from thier original God given land then you are not doing good. and You can't win against God. No matter how hard you try you will always fail against God .

You know how in N.J. they have certain times when they allow bear hunts to thin the population ? Well , we should have the same thing for illegals where we are allowed to shoot x amount of Mexicans . That would surely change this problem .

Get your facts straight, we won these states from Mexico as a concession in a war. As for slavery, battling tribes in Africa captured and sold slaves so put the blame where it belongs.

We need to have all candidates for senate clearly state their position on anything we care about before the elections in November. We need to know where theyh stand so we can vote accordingly to clean up the existing mess.

We do need border patrol, and I give AZ all the credit for actually enforcing the "law" that is already a "law" for the USA, the only difference is AZ has the political people we need in DC. The FBI can go into any city of any state and do what AZ is doing right now, and do it for racial profiling if they feel it is needed. AZ will only ask for proof of citizenship if the person is stopped for breaking the law..YES this is true, READ the law. This is not something that was written yesterday, AZ, I salute you

This is what Dora would look like when she's detained by Mexican Authorities when they apprehend her crossing through their country to make it to the US. Central American people crossing illegally into Mexico are raped, beaten, and robbed routinely. If they go to the police they are thrown out of Mexico with no due process. Mexico has been criticized by Amnesty International and other human rights group for their poor treatment of illegal aliens. Mexico's immigration laws are much harsher than the US and the US laws are much tougher than Arizona. Look up US Supreme Court case MUEHLER V. MENA. They ruled unanimously that law enforcement does not have to have probable cause to ask someone their immigration status. People should demand that Mexico treat illegal aliens as humanely as we do.

I wouldn't want children exposed to this image of Dora because Dora is a neat kid and kid's love her. But from an adult perspective, it's hilarious!
