Former 'Buffy' Actor James Marsters Is Engaged

Actor James Marsters, 47, announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend Patricia Rahman, US Weekly exclusively reports. A rep for the actor confirmed the news today.

Marsters, best known for his role as Spike on 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and 'Angel,' proposed to his fashion designer girlfriend in Trier, Germany. The actor met Rahman, 24, at a concert in Amsterdam and they are planning to wed this coming fall.

The actor, also known for memorable roles in 'Smallville,' 'Caprica,' and 'Torchwood,' is heading back to the small screen next fall. Along with 'Lost' alum Daniel Dae Kim, Marsters stars in the new CBS series 'Hawaii 5-0' which will debut in September.

This will be Marsters second marriage. He has one son, Sullivan, with ex-wife Liane Davidson.

But the girl is only 24 and he is 47.

Um, no. No where does it say his son is the same as his fiancee. She's 24, his son is about 13. Not the same thing. James and Patricia are both adults, their age difference is none of your business.

Americans are so obsessed with the age difference in relationships. Statistically your chances of failure in a marriage are lower with an age difference of at least ten years. Men mature slower, and they biologically want younger women. Want to stay young and beautiful to your husband? Marry someone older. Want to not have to worry about paying bills every month? Marry someone older who is already has money, or at least is secure in his career. Want to struggle with some guy who will cheat on you constantly, and not respect you? Marry someone your own age.

Wow. A 24-year old marrying a 47-year old man? Whatever makes them happy but I think that's too big an age difference. There's no way I could have ever married a man that old at 24. But she get's the money & fame via proxy, he gets the trophy.

I hope they are happy together, and that it lasts. James will be 48 this summer and his fiance just turned 24. I know he looks younger, but that's a big age difference. They met during his "Ghost of the Robot" concert in Amsterdam which was in May 2004. She was a teenager and still in high school, and he was in his 40s. I wonder if in a few years she won't feel as though she missed out on a lot.
