As John Travolta and Kelly Preston continue to relish the good news of the announcement that they are expecting a child together, new reports claim that Travolta's faith in Scientology may have caused them to want another child due to the passing of their teenage son Jett last year. And while one former Scientologist is making these claims, other current and past Church members are coming out against the rumors. The New York Post reported this week that that the 47-year-old Preston and Travolta, 56, were inspired to have another child so that Jett's spirit could live on, which is a common belief in the Scientology religion.
"The whole ethos of Scientology is that we come back. With Sea Org [the sect's upper echelon], they ask members to sign billion-year contracts. Their motto is 'We Come Back.' It makes sense that the Travoltas would have another baby after losing Jett,' former Scientologist Michael Pattinson told the New York Post.
Jett Travolta died in January 2009 after suffering a seizure while on vacation with the family in the Bahamas. Jett suffered from autism throughout his life, a fact that the Travoltas admitted only after his death.Amy Scobee, a Scientologist who left the church after 27 years and was the head of celebrity recruiting for the Church (read our interview with Scobee) tells PopEater that "it is generally believed in Scientology that when a person dies, they will move on and select another body to begin a new life."
Still, she says that any "speculation" about whether or not this is the reason for the new child is "a private matter between John and Kelly."
Tommy Davis, a spokesperson for Scientology, holds a similar stance, telling the Post that while the Church believes "that when people pass away, the spirit leaves the body and moves to another body right away ... I wouldn't want to make any comment on the Travoltas and the passing of their son, but for someone to suggest such a thing sounds pretty reprehensible to me."
Scobee said during her time in Scientology, she met Travolta and Preston several times.
"I first met Kelly when she was pregnant with Jett. She was so excited to be having her first baby ... John and Kelly are both very caring and wonderful people, in my opinion. I am extremely happy for them that they are having another child, especially after the loss of Jett. I wish them the best."

DEFINITELY fertility treatments...no question in my mind.
How can you say they never do any harm to anyone? Pumping loads of money and influnce into a cult to dominate others and you say they do no harm?
I don't believe in their so called religion, but I'm happy for them, and what makes them happy again, is great!

Honestly Vinnie and Shari, you seem really ignorant.

Wow better luck next time? Having more kids is NOT an insurance policy. These two are like Larry King old to be having another kid. Scientology does not support adoption I guess.

Oh for the love of sweet baby Jesus...will you people just shut up and go do something constructive with your time.
And Lin, you are doing something better with your time instead of being on here? Funny, you seem the same as the people you are bad mouthing. That's called hypocrisy in most circles.
I'm 47 and if I became pregnant i would slit my wrists.

If you became pregnant at any age...it is a gift from God and be happy that you are able to concieve. If you choose to not keep the child...there are families out there that would love to adopt. Stop being so childish!!
J - There would be an easier solution, unless you'd want to die rather than take it.
Why does some idiot have to peg their pregnancy to their beliefs. How about maybe, just maybe this is their own decision, just because it is what they want.
I'm happy for them to be having a new addition to their family.
Congrats to the Travolta family!

Gina.. Adoption is a personal preference . And besides . If they are too old to be having a baby as you say then they are too old to adopt a baby and raise it.. . What's the difference ?

Damn- why is the US so celebrity obsessed? If it was Bart Conklin, a nobody, would we be PONDERING ad nauseum about their motives to have a child?!
FOCUS on the important things in life- this is NOT one of them.

It doesn't matter why the Travoltas got pregnant. It's their business and whoever is spilling these crazy stories is looking for a payout. People in general should stop being so darn nosy about what other people do. We all have our own reasons for leading our own lives the way we do but we don't get our private lives pasted all over the news on a daily basis. Stop being so hungry for stuff that doesn't matter to you personally. And to those who go around with information to sell, stop being so selfish and respect the privacy of others.

A friend of mine had her second child at 50. Her husband was 65. It was an accident, but they had a beautiful baby girl. Everyone doing great. Let people live their lives.

To lose a child has to be the worst thing for any couple. The Travoltas has shown to be extrodinary parents and have dealt with their loss amazingly. if now they want another child and she's healthy to do it,then who are we to say anything. I dont believe in their religion either, but it's not my business! And obivously some of you are hateful people!!!
