As John Travolta and Kelly Preston continue to relish the good news of the announcement that they are expecting a child together, new reports claim that Travolta's faith in Scientology may have caused them to want another child due to the passing of their teenage son Jett last year. And while one former Scientologist is making these claims, other current and past Church members are coming out against the rumors. The New York Post reported this week that that the 47-year-old Preston and Travolta, 56, were inspired to have another child so that Jett's spirit could live on, which is a common belief in the Scientology religion.
"The whole ethos of Scientology is that we come back. With Sea Org [the sect's upper echelon], they ask members to sign billion-year contracts. Their motto is 'We Come Back.' It makes sense that the Travoltas would have another baby after losing Jett,' former Scientologist Michael Pattinson told the New York Post.
Jett Travolta died in January 2009 after suffering a seizure while on vacation with the family in the Bahamas. Jett suffered from autism throughout his life, a fact that the Travoltas admitted only after his death.Amy Scobee, a Scientologist who left the church after 27 years and was the head of celebrity recruiting for the Church (read our interview with Scobee) tells PopEater that "it is generally believed in Scientology that when a person dies, they will move on and select another body to begin a new life."
Still, she says that any "speculation" about whether or not this is the reason for the new child is "a private matter between John and Kelly."
Tommy Davis, a spokesperson for Scientology, holds a similar stance, telling the Post that while the Church believes "that when people pass away, the spirit leaves the body and moves to another body right away ... I wouldn't want to make any comment on the Travoltas and the passing of their son, but for someone to suggest such a thing sounds pretty reprehensible to me."
Scobee said during her time in Scientology, she met Travolta and Preston several times.
"I first met Kelly when she was pregnant with Jett. She was so excited to be having her first baby ... John and Kelly are both very caring and wonderful people, in my opinion. I am extremely happy for them that they are having another child, especially after the loss of Jett. I wish them the best."

Leave this family alone.....they do not deserve this constant speculation on when, where, why. Let them enjoy this!

Even a child born to older parents can be a wonderful thing . My baby sister was born when my mom was 48 .She was an accident and a so called "change of life baby" . She is now 26 years old and has brought more love and joy to our family than you can even imagine. My mom is now 74 and my dad is 75 .And very young for their age. They were great parents. They have lived to see her graduate from college and get married. So don't knock it . Even we younger parents have no guarantee we will be around to raise our children . The best of luck to you John and Kelly . Keep smiling .

I believe in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord God, born of the Father, not created.
Scientology is a body of beliefs and related practices created by writer L. Ron Hubbard !!

Christianity is a cult as well. It's just been around longer. Keep worshipping your invisible nothing in the sky.
Vinnie, listen, if you think scientology is a cult that you have to admit that all christian religions are cults as well. The rituals maybe different but the belief is in a superior being that there is no proof of. What makes his cult/religion any different from yours? People believe nonsense and worship it every Sunday.
That said, Travolta and his wife may have the wrong intentions or not. No one really knows. Either way, they have the love and support to give a child, so let them be. I'd rather see them raise a child then most people I know. My only concern would be for medical issues with Kelly and the baby being that she is no spring chicken.
Live and let live people. Stop being so mean.

Hey, Travolta, nice wig!! Folks, study the two photos at the top of this story. Notice the difference between John's hairline in the black-and-white photo with his son, versus the color photo with his wife/beard. Whaddaya know, ol' Saturday Night Fever wears a toupee. Gee, if Scientology was all that wonderful, why can't it grow hair?

Congratulations to Kelly and John. May she have a safe pregnancy and delivery and a healthy baby

I am suprised the media has not at least interviewed doctors about what procedures are used to get a 47 year old woman pregnant. This story keeps getting reported as if Kelly Preston is 29. No mention or raised eyebrow at her age... very odd.

I think it is selfish of the Travoltas to have another child. He will be 77 with the kid finishes college (if he is still alive) and she will be 67. Who is going to run bases with the kid? Nobody is thinking of this child.

And if Scientology played a role in them deciding to have another child...so be it. It's beautiful and they deserve to be happy!

Ryan . It is possible to get pregnant at 47 without help .Believe me I know . LOL

Now I know people do not have Jobs. All they do all day is get into other people bussiness. I'm happy for the the Travolta's as long as I don't have to pay for the child. Get a life and stay out of other people's bussiness.

The Travoltas had a child with special needs, which could have been treated and improved, and thus, his life could have been saved. They chose their religious absurd believe that autism doesn't exist and Jett died without ever having been given a chance.
What are they going to do if their new child has autism too (which is not unheard of, that parents have multiple autistic children)? Are they going to ignore it again until they "had to" admit it in court?
Maybe they shouldn't be having a baby at their age when the risks are even higher.

You would have to be blind not to see the pain that has been in John Travolta and Kelly Preston's eyes since they lost their son. My heart breaks for this couple who seems so loving and giving as parents and individuals. Anyone who has lost a child never gets over it and never would want to replace their lost child with another. Sometimes they just have so much love to share that they choose to do so with another child. Congratulations to Kelly and John. This is wonderful news and I wish them the very best.

The insanity of the cult of Scientology notwithstanding, the idea that one can get over the death of a child by replacing it with another, while natural, is doomed to failure. Any person with with a functioning brain and any emotion whatsover can never recover fully from such a loss and putting that burden on an innocent child is dangerous and immoral. The fact that these celebrities are doing this, and will lead others to think that everything will be all better by just having another child is frightening.
Sea Org? One thing Scientologists need to do is pick less ridiculous titles. That way normal people won't ridicule them constantly. Only then will Scientology flourish as the gigantic tax scam that it is.

wow 56 and 47 is it. well there may be some genetic problems. very old for haivng babies both paternal and maternal. a lot of cults have these real strange beliefs. jett man is gone and his memory should be what they cherrish because no other child can replace him and none should. he was special as all of us are. the new baby will be special as well.may jesus bless them and kept them safe.
