As John Travolta and Kelly Preston continue to relish the good news of the announcement that they are expecting a child together, new reports claim that Travolta's faith in Scientology may have caused them to want another child due to the passing of their teenage son Jett last year. And while one former Scientologist is making these claims, other current and past Church members are coming out against the rumors. The New York Post reported this week that that the 47-year-old Preston and Travolta, 56, were inspired to have another child so that Jett's spirit could live on, which is a common belief in the Scientology religion.
"The whole ethos of Scientology is that we come back. With Sea Org [the sect's upper echelon], they ask members to sign billion-year contracts. Their motto is 'We Come Back.' It makes sense that the Travoltas would have another baby after losing Jett,' former Scientologist Michael Pattinson told the New York Post.
Jett Travolta died in January 2009 after suffering a seizure while on vacation with the family in the Bahamas. Jett suffered from autism throughout his life, a fact that the Travoltas admitted only after his death.Amy Scobee, a Scientologist who left the church after 27 years and was the head of celebrity recruiting for the Church (read our interview with Scobee) tells PopEater that "it is generally believed in Scientology that when a person dies, they will move on and select another body to begin a new life."
Still, she says that any "speculation" about whether or not this is the reason for the new child is "a private matter between John and Kelly."
Tommy Davis, a spokesperson for Scientology, holds a similar stance, telling the Post that while the Church believes "that when people pass away, the spirit leaves the body and moves to another body right away ... I wouldn't want to make any comment on the Travoltas and the passing of their son, but for someone to suggest such a thing sounds pretty reprehensible to me."
Scobee said during her time in Scientology, she met Travolta and Preston several times.
"I first met Kelly when she was pregnant with Jett. She was so excited to be having her first baby ... John and Kelly are both very caring and wonderful people, in my opinion. I am extremely happy for them that they are having another child, especially after the loss of Jett. I wish them the best."

I am 47 (not a scientologist or the likes) and happy for Kelly and John. Their private lives (and destiny) belong only to them to judge and decide... (as any individual human being too)... more, they can afford it, and this is not only from a sadly limited materialistic point of view. Let's get out of the little dark box (or litter box, whatever), and let's cast out to them our best positive energies with a huge..."I wish them the very best!"
From the bottom of my heart,
HJ

The ''Travoltas'' are FREAKING NUTS! I'm sorry but I AM DONE! For years Kelly Preston went on any talk show she could and claimed products like Lysol & Clorox made her son ill. HE WAS AUTISTIC! They would never admit that. And now a pregnancy at 47?? Give me a break! You have millions, if you want a child that bad ADOPT ONE! They make me ILL.

And you Jacyln, are freakin'nuts - who decided to spell you name so stupidly?
why can't we just leave them alone. is not our business to judge them, miss undo , you are just bad and some of you. who cares if she is 47 years of age. i till you what at least they can offord to have a child and stop talking bad things about them , is not of our business really. give it a rest be a nice person
just listen to your self, you are just so wrong, if they can afford to have a child , good for them. but you don't have to be judgemental about this story. so be happy life is to short undo to short, don't be that way. live. laugh and be happy, good day
There is nothing wrong or unusual for a couple to want another baby after they've lost a child. These people have been through enough. I'm thrilled for them.

I agree, Mary. I'm happy for them.
I had my children at 41 and 45. Both are healthy and grown up now. There's no reason she can't still have a baby.
Also, I'm a Scientologist for over 35 years. A basic tenet of Scientology is that all people are basically good (even those who post hateful things). The reasons they do bad things can be found and understood and people can change, and the world can change if we all decide that we CAN do something about it. And then, of course, we have to find the correct technology for changing the evil in the world, and take responsibility for doing our part. The technology has been found, and it works whether you believe in multiple lives or not. No one demands you believe a certain way to be a Scientologist. All that is required is that you use what you learn to help yourself and others. All the people bad-mouthing it just haven't seen it for themselves. I'm sure the Travoltas don't think Jett has been hanging around waiting for them to have another baby. They just want to have another child to love, and are glad that they can still do so.

Wow. I heard on the news that John Travolta had died. That's pretty good for a dead man to have a marriage with a expecting pregnancy. Geez, how's that for a dead man? Does scientology make that one happen? Okay, so, it's another reason not to believe anyone.

It doesn't matter if the president is white or black! Its his liberal views and ways that will ruin this country. All you supporters will see, it's going to hurt you in the long run. Your taxes will go up to pay for everyone that's on welfare. Yall are the idiots.

Sophie, pray tell what does the Travolta pregnancy have to do with the presidency? Get a freakin' life...
YOU ARE IN THE WRONG PLACE DUMBO.GO DOWN THE HALL TAKE A LEFT TURN AT STUPID PATH.
I think it's just terrible the rumors that are surrounding what should be a joyous event for the Travoltas. Just leave them alone PLEASE ..they have lost a beloved child and even though I don't believe in Scientology and am a believer in Jesus, I know that God is in control no matter how one believes. I am very happy that they are expecting again and will love a new baby.

It annoys me that women in their late 40s (esp celebs) never mention fertility treatment. There is no way Kelly Preston is pregnant via her own eggs at 47.
I'd bet anything, she had has fertility treatment of some sort - just wish they would admit to it because there are many, many women in their 40s out there who would like to have a child - see a doctor, only to be told there is no way after early to mid 40s are you ever going to get pregnant via your own eggs.

hey DD , who cares, whos eggs , she is carrying, it is not your business to judege too. what is the matter with you people. just to much gossip. why do you care to much about it any way. just beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee nice , none of your businees ddddddddddd
you are wrong. I am an ob-gyn nurse and there have been 50 year olds in our office that are pregnant. Latest is a 45 year old. Sorry but you are wrong.
Many religions acknowledge that the spirit is immortal, and may experience many mortal lives. The fact that Christianity does not believe that is IMMATERIAL. It is, after all, just another large old cult of guilt, fear, and spiritual blackmail.
