Judge Paula Abdul Has 'Got to Dance' in New Show

Have you missed the effervescent and eternally positive musings of Paula Abdul on primetime TV? Well, the former 'American Idol' judge has landed a new job at CBS, as the lead judge and mentor on 'Got to Dance,' according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The show is based on the British hit and will feature dancers of all ages with performances ranging "from ballroom to break dance, bhangra to ballet, and tap to tango." On the UK version, acts compete in front of a panel of judges and viewers vote for their favorites.

CBS will make the news official on Monday. Abdul is also expected to be an executive producer on the series, which is being developed by ShineReveille.

'Got to Dance' will likely air mid-season, and as the Reporter notes, that would pit Abdul directly against both the next season of 'Idol' and Simon Cowell's new show, 'The X-Factor.'

Abdul used Twitter to announce her departure from 'Idol' last August. In a series of tweets, Abdul said: "With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return to #IDOL."

She went on to say that she would "miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon." In another tweet, Abdul said that she wanted to express "how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me ... I do without any doubt have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all."

With 'Got to Dance,' Abdul will get to the kind of nurturing she craves.

CBS now joins the other three major networks in having a dance-related show -- the most popular being ABC's 'Dancing With the Stars' and Fox's 'So You Think You Can Dance.' NBC's 'America's Got Talent,' while not strictly a dance show, includes plenty of hoofing action.

Well that'll me on my list of "not to watch shows" It was nice to not hav to look at the drugged and bombed abdul for a season.C'mon CBS you can do better then that....

This is a joke. The only reason she is a judge is because she is EXECUTIVE PRODUCER. No one else would hire her! The show won't go past the 8 weeks. PAULA - FIND A JOB WHERE SPEECH IS NOT A PART OF YOUR JOB!!! CBS is really grasping at straws thinking this show will do well. Another show I will not watch!

This is VERY bad news!!!! I was SO sure Paula would reunite with Simon on X Factor, and was so looking forward to those two reunited for good. Now who knows if they'll EVER work together again? I hope this show fails and Paula decides to join Simon.

While I will be glad to see Paula, I am disappointed that she is not going to be a judge on Simon's new show, as had once been rumored.

Paula and Simon made the show!! I loved watching them.....and it was so much fun to see them!! I remember vividly the kiss they shared...it was the sexiest kiss I have ever seen on TV!!!!! I missed Paula so much..and I will miss Simon.....I liked Ellen very much...but kara....she is something else.......I wish Paula and Simon the very best!!! They are tops with me!!!

I love Paula and I am SO very glad she's back. I am a bit disappointed that not only will she not be joining Simon on X Factor, but that the shows are pitted against each other. I WILL BE WATCHING BOTH.

What! Oh NO, not again. She was always so stoned or drunk on IDOL it was just stupid to watch. Did she go to rehab and get her s*it cleaned up? She needs to stay home and knit or something to keep her hands busy so she won't be popping pills or pouring booze down her throat. This broads a loser for sure.

Are you trying to tell me that Paula Abdul made the jump
to CBS' "Gotta Dance" as a way of saying that she wanted
absolutely nothing to do with Simon Cowell after she
did American Idol with him and Randy Jackson all those
years? I don't think so. It was more like CBS came to her.
As for your prediction that Gotta' Dance won't get past
8 weeks on CBS, well, maybe 8 weeks is all that show
needs to make a season, so basically, what you're saying
is it won't get past season 1. Whatever the case, with or
without Paula Abdul as Executive Producer, Judge, etc.,
Gotta Dance could beat both American Idol & X-Factor in
the ratings. Dancing With The Stars? I don't know. I do
know this, I hope Paula Abdul doesn't poke fun at Simon
Cowell on her show, if she even decides to be on it after
turning down several other offers after American Idol.

Those of you putting down Paula are just showing how ignorant you are in not knowing her at all. This lady is a longtime Superstar who can sing, dance, direct, produce, and design clothes, jewelry, you name it...Hence how rich she really is...So before you ridicule or Judge her..make sure you know what you are talking about....
