Departing judge Simon Cowell was supposed to be the center of attention in the 'American Idol' season 9 finale. But ironically, it was the former 'American Idol' winners who stole the show during his special farewell tribute segment, which also featured the return of former judge Paula Abdul. In a true show-stopping moment, winners Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks and Kris Allen took to the stage to sing 'Together We Are One' by Delta Goodrem, during which they were joined by a revolving door of 'Idol' finalists that included everyone from Kimberly Caldwell to Constantine Maroulis and, yes, Justin Guarini.
Noticeably absent, though, was season 7 winner David Cook -- the only 'Idol' winner who did not take part in the group performance. According to Twitter, Cook was attending a charity event for cancer in Kansas City. An official word from Cook's camp has yet to be released.

Ha! I didn't even notice he wasn't there.

I just figured Kelly Clarkson ate him.
Wait! Last year's winner wasn't there either - no Adam Lambert. But he's pretty much a loose cannon. Wonder why he wasn't there?
Susan,
I don't know where you've been, but Adam Lambert did NOT win American Idol last year; Kris Allen did, who was there.
adam was not there for going away deadication to simon eather why just mention cook
@ carlstadtal2 .... its because adams not important enough to be mentiond...lol and they all said he was going to go places...but look where he edned up:) lol
Lmao! "and they all said he was going to go places...but look where he ended up" Hmm. On a sold out World Tour less than 2 years after not winning and already 2 songs reaching #1 on the Billboard charts? Yeah, he didn't go anywhere. Especially not further that "what's his name?" that won...
Acess Hollywood is apparently important enough to get a call back. They posted this a couple hours ago:
"Access Hollywood has learned that David’s absence, however, was nothing dramatic.
David Cook had a charity event in Kansas City, his rep told Access Hollywood of the former “Idol” champ, who is known for his support of charities – in particular those related to cancer, a disease that stripped him of his brother."

I noticed David was missing but knew that it had to be for a good reason. Charity events are also scheduled way in advance and if they built the event around an appearance by David Cook - of course he had to be there. His brother died of a brain tumor obviously this was a cause close to his heart. Maybe we'll see him next year.
David (WON) American Idol...Adam (DID NOT!) that is why they only made a statement about Cook and not Lambert!
i noticed immediately that david cook was missing. also, this was more of a simon lovefest than the crowning of a new american idol, though i did love seeing paula.

feeble reasons??????????????? wow..well maybe you just happen to be one of those very self involved people who can't understand that giving of yourself to others is sometimes more important than anything else...his brother died of cancer...so in the BIG picture him doing that rather than being at the idol finale sows what kind of person he is..and your post certainly shows what kind of person you are.

AMEN.
Very well said, and I couldn't agree more
amen,amen
I totally agree with you.....His brother died from cancer and that is truely more important.....
I agree with you! You know I bet Simon would agree as well, he is not as self-centered as some think. Fight cancer is something that we all should have as a priority!
quote from A. Davidson...." Idol owns them ". How in the world do you think A/I owns them? You are so self centered. NO ONE owns anyone. Use your head for something besides a hat rack!!!!!!
Well said. As I see it the only thing that is feeble around here is the person that thinks it is a feeble reason. Shame on you.
Ever hear of karma?
Was looking forward to performances by Cook and Lambert. Thought this finale was fitting for an end to season 9... a terribly boring mess.
