Photo: 50 Cent Went From Built to Bony for Role

Channeling his inner Christian Bale or Tom Hanks, rapper-turned-actor 50 Cent shed a whopping 54 pounds of muscle and fat for his upcoming film, 'Things Fall Apart,' in which he plays a football player stricken with cancer. Photos of the transformation show how drastic his weight loss was; he went from 214 pounds all the way down to 160.

How did the normally ripped rapper do it? He tells Us Weekly he spent nine weeks on a regimen of liquids and three-hour-a-day treadmill sessions.

In other words, "I was starving" during production of the film, which he also wrote.

Fiddy, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, is back on tour now and preparing for a show in Detroit on Saturday. In recent concert photos, he looks back to fight weight and he appeared healthy in March, meaning his weight loss must have happened some time in April.

"I've been eating," he said. "I'll be back in shape in no time!"

The rapper is only the latest in a long line of actors who have gone to drastic measures for a role. Bale is among the most legendary, having lost 63 pounds for 'The Machinist' and then a similar amount for 'Rescue Dawn.'

I'm with you. He really looks sick. My bf is 160 but it looks normal on him, but on 50 cent it's just baffling.

What an idiot. I'm 210 and not on anything but Pringles and Snickers and I look gooooooood!

Jokes aside, everyone carries their weight differently. If I was shorter, 210 would put me on the Biggest Loser! But I carry it well and run 3 miles a day. Everyone is different.

Hopefully he did this with a doctor's supervision. To lose fat is one thing; to "lose muscle" is dangerous. The heart isn't only an organ -- it's muscle.

OMG thankfully he doesn't look like that on an everyday basis. It doesn't even look like him....
And to those saying that it's crack...take it from someone who knows. I have seen people who use that shi* and let me tell you this, if he was using crack, he sure wouldn't just be able to stop and go back to looking healthy that quick. Give me a break people! Hey, if it was that freak Tom Cruise, would you be accusing him of the crack diet??????? Doubt it!

He did a great job for his role, he looks awful. Coincidently, MJ looked about the same to me in This Is It, yet people were saying he looked fine. Skeletal looks horrible, everyone looks better with some meat on thier bones.

He looks terrible, and should not drastically alter his body like that. What he did is very, very unhealthy! He has put a strain on his heart, and a shock to his heart, and that is bad!

WOW. 50 Cent is a cool dude. Most of these rappers have very little to offer the world, but 50 is tough, smart, dedicated and talented. He is the exception to the entertainment industry. I can't wait to see his movie.
