That's No Stranger, It's Willie Nelson With Short Hair

It's being called the "Haircut Heard Around the World," and for many fans it's a shock to the system: Willie Nelson. Cut. His. Hair.

The country legend has rocked his signature waist-long red hair -- usually in pigtails -- for decades, but while spending time in sunny Hawaii, Nelson decided it was time to chop it off. His rep, Elaine Schock, said Nelson took the plunge sometime in the past two weeks.

The 'On the Road Again' star is now sporting a bob. The first pictures of Willie 2.0 show him happily strumming along as he performs in Maui on May 22.

True to his laid-back persona, the 77-year-old Nelson isn't making a fuss over the change, only saying he had grown tired of dealing with the long locks.

Schock said, "There's a lot of maintenance."

It's hard to pinpoint exactly the last time Nelson had such short hair. In 1975, he had shoulder-length hair around the time his classic album, 'Red Headed Stranger,' was released.

Willie cuts his hair about once every twenty years. He had done this before and the last time was in the mid 80's. I know because I saw him in concert in Norfolk, VA and his hair was short the way it is now.

When KAL said Bush was in office only a short time I think he was referring to the day of 9/11. Bush was president less than 8 months at that point. He should have said "had been" in office instead of "was" in office.

i think he cut just a little too much off, should have cut just to the shoulders. i too have real long hair and yes it is a pain to take care of but to cut it as short as willie? nope can't do it.

Hey, it's his hair but I always loved his long hair and the fact that even at his age it was soooooo pretty. Not pretty in a bad way but it was healthy and shiny. Something that I would love to have!

I'm shocked! I can't believe a professional cut his hair; it looks like it was done at home. I think he needs some layers and a little shape.

I love Willie, no matter what his hair looks like. I remember when his hair was really short and styled back. It's his voice, and his music I love; not his hair. However, I do miss the pigtails.

Hair is hair. I'm more disturbed that he's playing that solid body axe instead of his trademark, beat-up old acoustic. Hope that isn't part of the "new" Willie.

I don't care for his hair now. red? it's like he took away part of his signature. To me,that braid was one of his signatures along with his priceless guitar. If he did it for a cause then OK, he may have donated it for a great cause. What was he thinking with the red? However, Willie can do whatever he wants, we love him no matter what. People of all ages love Willie, what a following. Willie is a treasure like the bald eagle, an all American pie, hot dogs at a ball game, a wise old owl. Willie is the fabric of our lives and of all American music.

Being a well seasoned Hairdresser I gave this Haircut a thumbs down. The shape and style is wrong. Mr. Nelson's appearance would do well with another cut and style. A cut designed for his face, bone structure and lifestyle would be far better.
