Barbara Hershey, Naveen Andrews Split

Naveen Andrews and Barbara Hershey have ended their relationship, PEOPLE has confirmed.

According to Andrew's manager, the couple, who met on the set of the 1999 film 'Drowning on Dry Land,' parted ways six months ago but "remain the best of friends."

Andrews, 41, and Hershey, 62, separated briefly in 2005, during which Andrews fathered a baby boy with another woman. The couple reunited shortly after.

Andrews is best known for the ABC series 'Lost,' on which he played Sayid Jarrah for six seasons.

Hershey, who received an Oscar nomination for 'The Portrait of a Lady' in 1996, has appeared in a number of films, including 'Hannah and Her Sisters' and 'Beaches.'

Regardless of who you may be, for business reasons it makes sense. When my uncle and his wife split up many years ago, he was advised to run an announcement in the newspaper stating that he and his wife were legally divorced and he was not responsible for any of her debts from the date in which they legally separated. Sure enough, his ex-wife opened a charge account in her married name, did not pay it and her creditor decided to go after my uncle. Fortunately, his official public, published announcement shielded him from any liability for her debts. Incidentally, a cousin of mine failed to do this when he and his wife split up and divorced. His ex-wife opened charge accounts all over the place in her married name and guess who had to pay the bills? My cousin and it took him well over two years to pay them off. When you and your partner are no longer together, making an official announcement can very well save you a tremendous amount of expense and aggravation.

Too bad they split up. I suppose they didn't want to announce it while Lost was still airing. They had been together for a long time, so it's a shame. They had split up briefly in 2005 during which time Naveen fathered a baby. A woman never gets over a betrayal like that.
