Chace Crawford Arrested for Marijuana Possession

'Gossip Girl' actor Chace Crawford was arrested just after midnight Friday in Plano, Texas, for possession of marijuana, police tell TMZ. As he was in possession of under two ounces, the offense has been deemed a misdemeanor.

He was arrested in the parking lot of Ringo's Pub in Plano, which is located just north of Dallas. Sources told HollywoodLife.com that contrary to earlier reports claiming he was with a friend, Crawford was actually alone in his friend's car when police approached and found him rolling a joint. The source said, "he had a little under 2 ounces of marijuana in a plastic baggy sitting in clear view on the dashboard."

The source added that Crawford was "very polite and low key in a pair of jeans and flip flops and never identified himself," when he was arrested. According to reports, Crawford has posted bond and is out of jail.

According to state laws, those in possession of less than two ounces of marijuana can be incarcerated for a period of up to 180 days with a fine of $2,000.

Texas has a reputation for its harsh drug laws. To date, because the state of Texas does not legally recognize marijuana as a medicinal drug, any individual found in possession of it will be charged on a criminal platform (via criminaldefenselawyer.com).

Marijuana-related arrests accounted for nearly 5% of all arrests in the state during the year of 2002, the most recent year for which stats were available. This percentage includes 49,839 arrests for the possession of marijuana and 1,804 arrests for its sale.

Obviously, some of you ignorant people don't know a damn thing about Texas or Texans. I've lived in Texas all my life. I am neither stupid nor a gun owner. I do believe weed should be legalized, but only for use in moderation. I don't smoke all day long & get obliterated. Like I said...in moderation.

Well .. JUST WEED killed my best friend. SOme JUST WEED - smoker decided to get behind the wheel of a car and DRIVE while high on JUST WEED and hit my friend while walking across a cross walk legally.. and kept going... and when the cop asked why they didnt stop the JUST WEED -smoker didnt even realize that he hit anything (MY BEST FRIEND). JUST WEED- can kill!

I agree... only in America will they spend millions of dollars locking up someone for 10 dollars of weed. I don't even smoke, I've never smoked anything before and I see the waste of my tax dollars going to pay some cops,judge, lawyers, probation officer and the list goes on and on salary. It's time we put an end to this petty thing and move on. Funny thing is they crucify cigarette smokers and then start getting easy on pot smokers. Yes I'm on both sides of the fence but would rather see pot smoking legal....deal with other more important things.

What do you mean, "it's just weed?" Smoking pot escalates until it makes a person lazy and unable to think clearly, not to mention that it leads to other illegal drugs, so why smoke pot at all? He's an idiot: he has the chance to have a career and a lifestyle that will provide a secure life for him for his entire life and he takes the chance on losing it to smoke pot. Stupid!
