Who Should Be the Next 'American Idol' Judge?

With Simon Cowell's departure from the 'American Idol' judges' table, talk of who will replace the supercilious Brit will only continue to ramp up throughout the summer until the series' 10th season.

PopEater asked its readers if they had to pick either Madonna, Bret Michaels, Diddy or Howard Stern for Cowell's spot -- who would they choose? (All four have either spoken out or been rumored for the position.) More than 42K voted in our poll, and 50 percent chose Michaels, with second place going to Stern, who garnered 19 percent of the vote.

Wanting a face for these answers, we hit the streets of New York City to find out who should take Simon's place. We even got a few surprise guests to weigh in. Watch It Below

i happen to be glad simons gone hes an a** i think gene simmons would be the best choice and for those who hate ellen and want to see it cancelled to bad for you. i still love the show it not who is the judge! it american people who do the voting ! i think if we had the the chance to pick the people out of those pic in hollywood week too would be nice ,.

American Idol judges: Get rid of Kara and Ellen (love Ellen, but not on this show). Then add Neil Patrick Harris and Shanai Twain.

I'd rather mow the lawn than even think about watching either of those guys as a judge on idol. I would walk 20 miles to keep from watching Stern. There will never be another Simon nor Paula (although I didn't care for Paula at the time) after she left the show,
I realized she did add a little color to the show. Bret can sing, but no better than some of the contestants and not as well as some, diddy? only certain people like diddy and this show must appeal to a majority, Madonna has been washed up and not exactly anyones role model, and Stern!!!!!! They must be kidding. The name of this show is AMERICAN IDOL !!!!!! Is there anyone in the world who would want their kids to thin of him in the same sentence as AMERICAN IDOL? So they may as well cancel the show because the people being mentioned will add nothing to it.This is my last season to watch Idol. Watching Idol without Simon will be like watching Golden Girls without Betty White.

Bret would be good. No one should get a Simon-Alike, so he would be a good diversion judge for the LAST year I hope if AI. They should get Bret and get rid of Ellen, then maybe someody would watch. With Ellen, now way. That was a real disaster. All they need is three judges for the plethora of bad talent. Currently the AI , Dweeb has been the worst since last years What's-His-Name !

I don't think they should pick the judge just because they're popular or crude. This show was always about finding the next musical star, so they really should get someone whose business is to find talent. This show should really be about the contestants, so it doesn't necessarily have to be someone we know. Just like we didn't know Simon or Randy Jackson when it originally aired.

Stern is all washed up His radio show on Sirius is terrible now. Plus I lost all respect for him letting Artie Lange sink so low just because it made good radio. He is a contributing factor to that mans attempt to kill himself. Just go away no one cares about your bloated opinion of yourself.

Okay, Bret won the apprentice, now everybody wants him to take Simon's place on american idol. I wonder if he hadn't almost died would all of this be happening. People are so stupid, stop playing the sympathy act with people, be fair. SAD THAT SIMON IS GONE BECAUSE HE REALLY TOLD THE TRUTH BUT HE WAS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT ABOUT :CHRIS DAUGHTRY , CLAY AIKEN AND JENNIFER HUDSON.
