Chris Brown Denied Entry to Great Britain for Tour

Chris Brown has been denied entry into Great Britain on the basis of his past assault conviction, meaning he'll have to postpone a small concert tour there.

Officials confirmed to BBC News that the 21-year-old singer's visa application was scuttled: "We reserve the right to refuse entry to the UK to anyone guilty of a serious criminal offense. Public safety is one of our primary concerns."

Brown, who was sentenced to community service for assaulting ex-girlfriend Rihanna in early 2009, now must cancel at least six concerts, beginning with a show scheduled for Wednesday in Scotland. He also scrapped a show in Ireland.

Tour promoter SJM confirmed the concerts have been postponed "due to unforeseen circumstances."

The singer tweeted the news, but has since removed that message. However, he's been letting fans know how bummed he is about the decision.

"U ever feel like the storm clouds are too thick for any sunshine to get through?" he mused on Monday.

Denying entry to American artists with criminal pasts is nothing new in Britain. Snoop Dogg was famously banned from Britain over a scuffle he had at Heathrow airport in London.

I support the Bristish government fully and feel they have the right to expel, or prohibit anyone they deem "unsavory" from their country! maybe we here in the USA should grow a pair and also stop letting all these illegals through the door???

for all of you who think the UK action is not fair, here is the new plan. some UK criminal(wife beater,child diddler,murder,or petty theif-your choice) has been let into this country and given a map to your house. An invite to dinner with your family. He/She has done their time,payed for their crime. After dinner, goes on a crime spree in YOUR neighborhood. Who's fault would that be? You wouldnt be happy would you? I'm sure Chris Brown wasn't planning on beating women in the UK.But i guess we'll never know.Just like we don't know what you would make the UK criminal for dinner.I doubt you'd allow it.

It's time to move on and let Chris Brown do what he do. Rhianna moved on and is looking more and more like a Lil Kim wannabe, talking about changing your image. Yes, what Chris did was wrong, but Rhianna wasn't the 1st or sad to say won't be the last celebrity to get a "beatdown". We just haven't heard about it.

he made a mistake, okay so it was like a big one, but he's trying to move on, trying to go on with his life, but there are so many people who refuse to leave him alone, so many who are trying to hold him down, but he WILL go on and he WILL show he's a BETTER PERSON..better than those who continue to judge.. no one can hold him back--he has sooo much positive support..they just dont always print it, but we're strong ...and we're here.

I know he was wrong to do what he did....but a public safety hazzard? Probably not. Not that you could pay me to see him, because his is just not my taste....but get real. You might not want to date or marry him, but I doubt he is any danger at a concert...the whole thing just seems silly to me.

People can speculate all they want. Truth of the matter is two people were present there that night and only one has spoken. You have to respect that he made a mistake and owned up to it-something many, whether famous or not, have not done. Naomi Campbelll for example, is notorious for her temper and violent outbursts-still she is supported and on top of her game. His talent should far outweigh what he's done in the past. I for one fully support him. I also feel that the United States needs to be selective with whom we allow across our borders, give Britain a taste of her own medicine

Chris Brown is a convicted woman beater. The UK is correct in not letting him enter the country. I would like to see him leave ours. I was a fan at one time. There is no reason to hurt another person unless in self defense but especially no reason for Domestic Violence. As part of fighting Domestic Violence we should stop buyng his music. I wouldn't pay a penny for one of his CD's and change the channel anytime he is on a show.

If you have ever traveled and needed a visa you would know that they are applied for well in advance and you know before you fly if you have one or not. This convicted criminal and his people just did not believe that they could be refused. Why do we need it explained to us??
