Director James Cameron is clearing up comments he made regarding the BP oil spill. In an interview at the All Things Digital tech conference last Wednesday, Cameron said, "Over the last few weeks, I've watched, as we all have, with growing horror and heartache, watching what's happening in the Gulf and thinking those morons don't know what they're doing."
Well, the 'Avatar' director went on 'Larry King Live' Monday evening to say those comments were "taken out of context."
"The other shoe dropping on the story was, then I got into it and I talked to petroleum engineers and we started this study group ... They're not morons," Cameron told King. Watch the interview:
During the interview, Cameron also offered up advice to those helping to clean up the oil spill. The Deepwater Horizon rig exploded April 20, killing 11 workers and sparking the worst oil spill in U.S. history. "There are good engineers out there ... working very hard. It's a very, very complex problem to solve," he admits.
Cameron revealed last week that BP had rejected his offer to help fight the massive oil spill, revealing he has done extensive work with robot submarines and underwater filming in his movies.
He also attended a conference with the Environmental Protection Agency and urged the government to start taking another look at the oil spill -- asserting BP isn't revealing the whole truth about how much oil is actually spilling into the Gulf of Mexico.
"If you're not monitoring it independently, you're asking the perpetrator to give you the video of the crime scene," Cameron said.
He has no place to think. BP is just screwing around and wowing the public as if they can do anything because they know they're beyond screwed. No, you viewed are the moron for thinking it can be fixed. - Sorry.
While I do agree the BP execs have SAID some moronic things ("I just want to get back to my life" and "there are other places to catch shrimp") who are these Hollywood types who think they know more about how to fix an oil spill? Cameron? Costner? LMAO! They are all suffering from huge egos thinking they are intelligent enough to help. There are REAL scientists out there with ideas of how to help and even they are turned away by BP. I do not think BP is doing a good job, but to think an H-Wood type could do better is simply laughable.
They should be talking to Dr. Robert Ballard, an expert in deep water submersables (sp?) and robotics. He laid the groundwork for James Cameron to film Titanic.
They are morons and so is the agency in OUR government that gave them permission to drill without a solution in place if it breaks. They are MORONS and I will not buy BP gas again.
Amen, that is the real problem. During these green times alot of manufactures are concerned( or act like it)about the safety and the environment of our lovely planet. If there is no way to shut off the well why drill them in the hurricane infested waters of the gulf. Congradulations BP on making such a smart decision and our goverment for letting them.Guess i will have no more fishing trips with my grandsons in the Gulf.
The president is so lacking, to not step in and insist that BP use outside experts, who are either available or have already volunteered their help, only to be vanquished by BP. To sit and wait this out is ludicrous!
Oh, please - grow a pair already!! I'm SICK of all this damn apologizing and claiming things are "taken out of context". No they aren't - you said what you meant, that's why you SAID it! People do not say things they don't mean, and I never believe any of these publicist-mandated "apologies". Jesus, just own up to saying what you meant to say - defend your opinion already. BP ARE morons, there's nothing wrong in saying it!
I agree with(me) James you said it, stand by your words. They are morons. They should be taking help from anybody that got an good idea. Our government need to put in a plan that for everyday oil is gushing they are getting fined 50 million a day. They will stop that crap by the second day.
These guys are not morons, they are sociopaths. One percent of the population is sociopathic. If they are not killers, they make great CEOs, because they no problem killing things for profit. They oil people will have absolutely no problem with killing the Oceans for a return on investment. Sadly, by the time the people wake up to this, it will be too late. Might be already.
ONLY the current POTUS would send a Movie Director to the Gulf....the real moron is in the WH.NEVER apologize for the truth...Obama sees himself as this victim now and Cameron thinks he walks on water as well....reality check....your both nuts...
As a person who has lived all my life on the gulf, the executives at BP are morons. But cameron has not a clue. Hes simply a movie maker, not the answer for cancer. Some of these holly wooders think they walk on water. Cameron has made a few movies, so now he has the answer for everything in life. It must be wonderful to know everything...
If the oceans die - we are not far behind. BP is slowly killing us all in the name of the "bottom line." BP has misled, and lied, to the public from the beginning - exactly how much did their CEO claim was spilling into the Gulf after the accident? I'm waiting to see what happens when the look to the American public to recover what money they have spent in their "effots" - what? You didn't think they would "clean up" their mess responsibly, did you? I'd have had more respect for Cameron if he'd offered up the "No apology offered" script.
Jims right, the Oil industry has some brilliant techs and engineers that by and large they do a pretty clean job despite how nasty that stuff is. But 'nasty' is the word and those who desire to hold onto this polution creating old oil dependent energy policy for as long as they possibly can are stifling futuristic alternatives and ideas. Its a tough one since the big oil boys have all their infrastructure set up and create many jobs and they are super money makers. Why quit on a good thing? But in the face of the dishonest politics we all hate and the dishonest wars and increasing widespread polution centered around diminishing reserves, maybe its time to own up and admit its time to develop some new ideas and begin to move on, perhaps before its too late eh!
GREEDY WHITE MEN ARE DESTROYING OUR BEAUTIFUL EARTH ,WITH NO CONSEQUENCES.GOD COATED THE INNER EARTH WITH OIL FOR SOME REASON , MAYBE OIL IS LIKE BLOOD TO THE EARTH,MAYBE THE HUMAN RACE DESERVES NOT TO EXIST.WE ARE MORE INTERSTED IN STUPID THINGS THAT DONT EFFECT OUR LIVES,LIKE WHAT CELEBRETIES ARE DOING,THEN WE ARE ABOUT THE REAL WORLD WHERE OUR YOUNG BOYS ARE BEING KILLED IN A WAR THAT HAS NO TRUE REASON OR VALUE,IF WE WANT PROTECT OURSELVES THERES A DRUG WAR AND AFAR BIGGER PROBLEM THATS RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO US IN MEXICO.GET REAL AMERICANS!!
