While John Travolta and Kelly Preston await the birth of their third child, they continue to mourn the loss of their son, Jett, and now Preston's mother is speaking out about her concern for her daughter after Jett's passing as well as her happiness upon hearing the exhilarating news of Kelly's pregnancy. Linda Carlson, speaking with UsMagazine.com, said that she "cried so hard I couldn't see straight" when she heard about the pregnancy. "I just bawled my eyes out ... Because I've been so worried about her," Carlson continued.Preston and Travolta announced the pregnancy after Star Magazine broke the story on May 18. Hours after the story surfaced online, the couple confirmed the news on Travolta's official website.
"It's impossible to keep a secret ... especially one as wonderful as this. We want to be the first to share this great news with everyone that we are expecting a new addition to our family. Love, John, Kelly and Ella," the post read.
While Travolta and Preston have quite a bit to celebrate, they are no doubt still reeling from the loss of their son Jett, who died suddenly in January 2009 after suffering a seizure while on a family vacation in the Bahamas. Jett, who was only 16 when he passed away, battled autism throughout his life.
To make matters worse, the Travolta family was then extorted by Bahamian EMTs, who threatened to sell photos of Jett to the media.
Carlson says the tragedy took a heavy toll on her daughter and son-in-law. "Not only losing Jett but those godawful horrible men trying to extort them! Unbelievable. It was awful on them, they were grieving so badly. They do weather it, but holy cow, such grief. John was devastated, just devastated."
Carlson says that she knows the new child will be made familiar with Jett and his memory. "He'll see the pictures and he'll be told stories. He or she, whatever ... It couldn't come at a better time. Her aura is so filled with peace. It's changed their lives," Carlson said.
Travolta and Preston wed in 1991 and had two children, daughter Ella Bleu, born in 2000, and their late son Jett. Both Travolta and Preston have kept low profiles since his death.
In the days following the tragedy, Travolta spoke to fans through a simple statement:
We would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks to everyone who has sent their love and condolences. Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered. We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time we had with him for the rest of our lives. We have received many messages of condolence from around the world and we want to thank everyone for their prayers and support. It has meant so much to us. It is a beautiful reminder of the inherent goodness in the human spirit that gives us a hope for a brighter future.
Preston was due to speak at The Women's Conference last summer but pulled out when she felt it was still too close to the tragedy. Travolta did not do public appearances to publicize his films -- 'The Taking of Pelham 123,' 'Old Dogs' and 'From Paris With Love -- that have opened in the wake of Jett's death.
Carlson says she hopes the new baby will help Preston and Travolta "out of their sorrow. I know Kelly has been longing for another baby."

I hope the baby is okay, and think it is a good idea for them. But the Scientology cult will not allow medication for treatment of a seizure disorder. Klonopin, Temazepam, Phenobarbital, etc. are anti seizure meds for treatment of that. Scientologists cannot take anti-seizure prescriptions unless it is cleared by the cult first, which they never allow. That is a FACT. A woman with postpartum depression is not permitted to take medication. A cancer patient, etc. Exercise and vitamins are all they allow. If a Scientology member does get treatment, they lose whatever “rank” they are in that cult. It is true. I have known Scientologists that left, because of that alone. One guy needed a knee surgery, and that cult would not allow it, so he and his wife left. A friend of mine who has had three children said after the third child, her depression was so bad for two years she considered suicide. It was right around the time idiot Cruise made a total buffoon of himself by saying there was no such thing as postpartum depression. She was not a whacko Scientologist, but her husband said that when midget Cruise said that was the first time he had heard her laugh in over a year. She was on meds for it and it eventually went away. She said the whole pregnancy was different than the other two. I doubt midget Cruise ever delivered a child, unless he is actually a she.
I hope the Travolta’s are fine. John and Kelly are wonderful people, but PLEASE take the baby to a doctor when needed.
They couldn't handle Jett's autism because of their religion. What's going to happen if they have another special child? right, nothing.

What do you mean they couldn't handle Jetts autism? Please explain.
Yes, explain, because I saw a boy who was loved by his family, kept out of the mean media light, and whose family gave him the care and attention that any child needs and deserves. An accident happened, no parent can be with a child 24 hours a day, they have other children, work, life.................Just because they did not make him a public spectical does not mean they could not handle his autism
I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO SAY EVEN IF OTHERS ARE TOO STUPID TO GET IT. WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS THE TRAVOLTAS CONSTANTLY COVERED UP WHAT WAS WRONG WITH JETT CLAIMING WHAT HE HAD WAS SOMETHING ELSE WHICH IT WAS NOT SO THEY BASICALLY EITHER LIVED IN DENIAL OR LIED OVER AND OVER ABOUT IT FOR WHATEVER REASON. AND THEIR RELIGION IS NO RELIGION, BUT IS A CULT.
She had a special needs child at 30 so she is 47 and just doubled her chances of having another one.
You want me to explain what I mean? OK. Jett had autism, but because scientology does not "believe" that it exists, he was never given the treatment that could have helped him speak and thrive mentally. John's brother has been very open about his criticism of the way they denied Jett the help he needed, all in the name of scientology.
YOU ARE AN IDIOT!
Just wondering how you are such and expert on this family. Were you a fly on a wall of their home for the last 16 years, lived next door or across the street from them and monitored all activity? What? Oh I see you read the Enquirer. (catching the sarcasm?) now I understand what qualifies you to be judge and jury of the Travolta household. If you can not say something nice do not say anything at all, especially if cant not back it up with facts and evidence.
what a stupid, ignorant thing to say. shame on you.
you all are nuts they kept it quiet because they were embarrased and ashamed of the kid. they went to the bahamas where the laws couldnt make them seek medical attention that would conflict with their religion.ultimatelty the bottom line is they let the kid die
They might have another special-needs child, but hey, if I was in my mid-forties and had money I would do IVF with a donor egg or embryo. Much better chance of avoiding the problems with my old eggs! But however this child came to be I'm sure he/she will be loved.
Congrats to them, but Kelly is 46 or 47 yrs old. I wonder if this was an IVF baby? I hope everything turns out ok, most women her age having a baby have health problems as does the baby. I wonder why they didn't adopt or have other kids before now if they wanted more kids? Seems like a long time to wait. I hope it isn't just grief, that baby will always wonder if it is a replacement and has to fill Jett's shoes.

Elizabeth ~ Maybe they purposely didn't 'wait' so long to have a baby. Maybe it just didn't happen. Sometimes women have trouble getting pregnant for whatever reasons. My aunt and uncle had a son, tried again for years and ended up adopting two children because it just wasn't happening for them. When their natural born son was 16 my aunt got pregnant again. I'm sure the Travoltas will love their new child just as much as Jett and Ella. I doubt this new baby will grow up feeling like a replacement for Jett. Why borrow trouble??
She's pregnant at 47 so what are her chances for a normal child? Less than perfect. You just can't have a baby to replace another child it's so unfair to the new child.
