Kendra's Sex Tape as a Learning Tool? No Way, Say Moms
Kendra Wilkinson has been desperate to rebrand herself from a nudie model and trashy reality star into a domesticated diva, albeit one who still prances around in booty shorts.
But, if she thought her comments to Ryan Seacrest about how her sex tape could be a learning tool to teach her now infant son, Hank IV, right from wrong would endear her to the mommy set, she was sorely mistaken.
"Now that this happened, it hurts, but I know it's going to make me and Hank better parents. It's really going to make us teach our child what's right and wrong in this world. We're going to make sure our son is raised with a good head on his shoulders, a person that has morals, that treats women with respect," Kendra said.
And seeing mommy giving a stranger a ... that's going to make little Hank a better man?
Mommy bloggers are up in arms over Kendra's silly and ignorant remarks, saying she is really reaching for an excuse or a silver lining to this nasty situation and she should have left her son out of it altogether.
"It's unfortunate Kendra is in a position to have to explain her actions to her son. To justify the tape in this way, however, will teach him that he is not accountable for his actions and to make excuses for bad decisions," says blogger and mother of two Cecelia Mecca, PhD, of
Cool Baby Kid.
Another question is where does Kendra plan to draw the line when it comes to her teaching tools? Will she drag out old copies of Playboy, spin moralistic yarns from the mouth of Hugh Hefner? Maybe Hank can play dress up in her old bunny outfits.
"Sounds a little bit to me that she's trying to convince herself that it wasn't such a bad thing. I saw her on her show, 'Kendra,' and she seemed distressed about it then, and even said, 'I have a family.' She should have left it at that, she didn't need to change her statement and make it about teaching her son. I think as a mom you always want better for your children, but to basically say her sex tape is a learning tool, she's just kidding herself there. Maybe her issues of Playboy were also just to teach her future child. Mistakes happen in life, and even if you don't know you'll be a celebrity, doesn't mean it's safe to make a sex tape. If you're afraid of anyone seeing anything like that of you, just don't do it," says Jennifer Bullock, creator of the blog
Mommy B Knows Best and a mom of two.
Christine Coppa, author of 'Rattled!' and the
Mama's Boy blog on Parenting.com, knows a little something about putting her personal parenting advice out there for everyone to see or read. Since she became a single mom to her son J.D. two-and-a-half years ago, she has been putting her story out there just like Kendra -- only without the sex tape.
She agrees that Kendra was reaching for excuses during her Seacrest interview, but is much more maternal in her opinion that little Hank IV won't care about his mom's sordid past as long as he is loved by two happy parents.
"I think sometimes things are better left not talked about. Son and sex tape in the same sentence is one of those times. I do appreciate Kendra's attempt to defuse this very uncomfortable situation, but making statements about how her infant will one day learn a moral lesson from her sex tape is reaching. My son, who turns three this summer, is getting his moral lessons from the Disney-Pixar movie 'Cars,'" Coppa says. "Everyone has a past and everyone is allowed their mistakes. We weren't always parents thinking about what's best for our child. I'm sure Kendra wishes she could go back in time and nix that sex tape all together. We all have those moments, [but] all we can do now is move forward -- it's hard, but it gets easier. Hank Jr. won't be concerned about that sex tape. He has a beautiful mom who loves him -- and a strong family standing behind him!"
Maybe Hank IV will be a very well-adjusted little boy (who grows up with cameras in his face), who can shrug and laugh off his mom's naughty tapes and pictures. But he probably won't be. According to psychiatrist Dr. Carole Lieberman, M.D., this sex tape will be damaging to Hank IV no matter how Kendra tries to spin it.
"When her son grows up, if anyone remembers the sex tape, or if he finds stacks of them in the garage, he will be psychologically damaged by seeing his mother performing sex acts," Dr. Lieberman says.
The real lesson in all of this is about right from wrong, but it isn't a lesson for Hank IV. It's for all the little girls and boys out there who one day hope to be famous/have a family/have an awesome career. Don't make a sex tape.

If Hank 1V reads Aol, his first words will be "I`ll hit on that!", but will he mean mommie dearest or the man in the video with her?
thank you my words exactly and yes I am a women with a kid.
This is the right way to give a hummer to a stranger, and this is the wrong way. This is how you take it up...
CANNOT BELIEVE THERE IS ANYONE OUT THAT ACTUALLY GIVES A SH..!!!
I WAS HOPING WHEN I CLICKED THE LINK, THE "FULL LENGTH" (hahaha, I crack myself up. Full Length- get it) VIDEO WOULD "POP-UP" (wow, there it is again). I WANT TO SEE HOW WELL SHE DOES THE 'TURKEY' (gobble, gobble).
I think that she is full of crap. She is worried about a sex tape, but yet lived in the playboy mansion, had a relationship with a man who was dating other woman. What is she going to tell her son about that. Do I feel bad for her? No.

People make mistakes....there's nothing she can do about it now except put a positive spin on it...I'm sure she's learned her lesson!

LMAO! ..you were joking right?
Nope, I wasn't. She was young. I'm serious, give her a break. There is NOTHING she do about it now.
People often water down bad decisions by calling them "mistakes". Her choices were deliberate. They were not mistakes. They were SIN!
I think people here are taking this way too literally. I would bet that when Kendra says she's going to use the tape, "as a learning tool" she doesn't mean actually showing it to her child.

An airhead like that probably would show Her sex tape to Her Child.
I agree with bondjamesbond...didn't this skank give her new inlaws a signed copy of the playboy she was in??? she has no morals and she's an idiot.
Lay Kendra the hell alone.

Yeah, dammit.
Lay her alone!!!
Yes, she made a big mistake; yes, she chose to do what she did. I don't know why people think they can tape their sex acts and trust that it won't get out are crazy! Relationships end and what better way to get back at someone! I truly hope that Kendra realizes that she did what she did, she can't take it back, and she will have to live with it. But you know, in today's time it's all about sex. Society has pretty much said sex is okay with anyone at anytime; married or not married. Just look around you. How many young girls do you see dressed with very little left to the imagination; sexting is nothing to young girls, "everybody" does it! Think about it; Tiger Woods, Jesse James, hell even Marilyn Monroe! It's all about SEX. If Kendra really wants to set an example, she's doing it by admitting it was wrong. She'll have to live with this and she will have to answer the questions when her children grow up. It's her shame. It's going to be awfully hard for mother's today to tell their children that this is wrong, when all society is saying is that it's okay. What a world we live in!

I like Kendra. I guess I'm jealous of her, wish I could have her looks and life. Leave her alone and go back to your miserable life !

I agree with you, Kim. LEAVE HER ALONE!!!She made a mistake. ok, so we all don't make that kind of mistake, but GET OVER IT. Geez!!
Jealous of what? Her fake boobs? Her fake laugh? Her fake life? Women never cease to amaze me (and Im a woman). Being jealous of another woman? THINK OF WHAT SHE'S PAID IN LIFE TO BE WHERE SHE IS. She slept with other females, a old man, who by the way was sleeping with other women(with alot of viraga). I have no respect for her period. Can't turn a HO into a housewife.
right on Joanie!
Sometimes being a good housewife is being a HO if you want a lasting happy marriage. She owes no one any explanations. Her son will grow up know that his mother has cared and loved him since he was conceived that is all that matters.
