John Goodman Looks Better Than Ever!

John Goodman showed up at a red carpet event last night [above right] looking fitter and healthier than ever. He was significantly heavier as recently as October 2009 [above left, in Germany]. The 'Big Lebowski' and 'Roseanne' star turns 58 on June 20.
Congrats on the weight loss, John! Tell us your secret!
"For almost all his life [Goodman] has also been overweight, and his acting draws on both the genuine status that comes with being big, and the stigma that comes with being fat," the
New York Times reported in 1991 in a piece called 'Being the Big Guy.' "Being big can make his characters heroic, being fat can make them tragic, or at the least, give them one more cross to bear."
The weight loss has
Entertainment Weekly fretting Goodman may not be able to reprise his iconic character Walter Sobchak if the Coen Brothers ever elect to pen a sequel to their cult classic 'The Big Lebowski.'
London's
Daily Mail reports a photo of Goodman in 2008, filming 'Confessions of a Shopaholic,' prompted fiery controversy about his weight. Tabloid The Globe wrote a piece titled '400-lb Goodman eating himself to death,' which delved into friends' concerns about his habits.
The '91 Times piece went into great detail about Goodman's history and feelings about weight:
"While Goodman is far more of a big man than a fat one, he's always seen it the other way around. He saw magazine polls a couple years ago listing him among America's sexiest men as an effort 'to taunt the poor boy.' And when Anna Elizabeth Hartzog, at the time 19 years old, approached him during the shooting of 'Everybody's All-American,' Goodman was so convinced this very pretty college student couldn't be interested in him that he was rude. They were married two years later."
Goodman finds all praise of his dancing and grace insultingly condescending. 'Yeah, for a fat guy,' he says when complimented about it. 'Right, like watching the elephants in 'Fantasia,' and those hippos in their tutus. It's sad but true. A fat guy that moves around like that doesn't think of himself as primarily a fat guy moving around like that. He's just a guy trying to find the groove like anyone else.'"
In 2009, during a New York City theater stint, Goodman said alcohol -- specifically Jack Daniels -- nearly ruined his memory. "I had a 30-year run, and at the end I didn't care about anything," he told the
New York Times of his drinking. "I was just fed up with myself. I didn't even want to be an actor anymore."

Good going John! I love you as an actor-you made the show Roseanne-you were the funniest character on the program. Love ya John!

You look great John, good for you...I love his work in Treme, the series on HBO...Thinking back on it, there hasn't really been a movie, or TV show, that his talent as an Actor stood out...Good Luck in the future

Excuse my gaffe...What I was trying to say, was that his talent as an Actor, always snowed...I think John is a very good, and under rated Actor...

I always thought John Goodman was one of Hollywood's most under-rated actors, I don't think I've ever seen one of his movies where he didn't do a stellar performance...I thought he was so friggin'funny in The Big Lebowski. I think he looks awesome!

I love John Goodman! He has always been a good looking man to me no matter what. He seems to have a great heart and he is a great actor! So glad you are taking care of yourself...Love ya John!

He seems like a nice guy, but he can't blame everyone else re: his weight. Women who are fat wouldn't be given half his chances.

GREAT about the weight loss- but his FACE looks HORRIBLE - he needs some JUVIDERM and BOTOX and some filler to YOUTH UP a bit
Reply
His face does NOT look horrible. He just looks his age, and NOTHING wrong with that. Whats up with society thinking no one should age? Then when someone gets the Juvederm and Botox, people will start saying they look unnatural. Sounds cliche, but its whats inside that counts!!!
I loved him on Roseanne. He was the only reason I watched that show.As for him saying that Jack Daniels ruined his memory-I can vouch that it does. My landlord swigs it by the gallon. You can tell him the rent is paid and he believes it.The whole month of Dec,we skipped the rent and paid bills with it and he never even noticed!

I'm thrilled that John Goodman has finally decided that his life is worth saving. He's such a great performer. He looks absolutely GREAT!!!!

Ya know...all these years I have been waiting for the unfortunate news that John would die from being so overweight; I'm glad that's over and done with. I'm not in any way a morbid person so please do not see my remarks as cruel. He was so huge and out of shape;it was only a matter of time. I wish him well and I gotta tell you...he looks dapper!!! WHAT AN ACTOR!!! LIVE LONG BUDDY!!!

Totally agree with you, Love John, and always worried he would die like John Candy another big guy, who died too soon, and a big fave of mine as well, glad this John wont be going that way, knock on wood!
Great job John--You look a bit like John Wayne now. If they ever make a movie about his life you could be the star.

I think that John Goodman looks enough like the Duke that he could do a movie of his life.

I saw john in the New Orleans Airport a couple of years back. It was Mardi Gras day and he was apparently hung over. I went up to him as the typical star struck moron and said "how ya doin?" He snarled alright and I quickly took off. I then realized that he looked terrible so I went back and asked him if he was alright and if he needed anything. He appeared grateful but still sick. He look really big and I was concerned about him. I'm glad to see he lost all of that weight. He'll probably be around for a little longer and it is good to see.

Way to go John! John Goodman is one of my favorite actors and I loved him in King Ralph, Blues Brothers 2000, The Big Lebowski, Raising Arizona, and other flicks. Don't ever give up John, you're a great actor and the world needs to see it! Congrats on the weight loss and the acheivements in your life so far! ^^

Everyone is so excited about his weight loss. Typical for this country. No one notices his pale face. Not all weight loss is planned and natural. Drugs or illness can play role.
