Paula Abdul Wants Simon Cowell's Mom to Replace Him on 'American Idol'

While backstage at the 64th Annual Tony Awards Gift Lounge,
Paula Abdul had a lot to talk about regarding Simon Cowell's departure from 'American Idol.' While the rumors have been swirling about who is going to replace him -- names like Bret Michaels and Howard Stern have been tossed around -- Abdul named her official choice: Simon's mother!
"I think Simon's mom would be brilliant because who knows him better than she?" Abdul gushed to PopEater backstage at the gift lounge.
Abdul opened up about her new show, 'Got to Dance,' her thoughts about Michaels as an 'Idol' judge and hilarious moments from the 'Idol' finale that didn't make the air. >>>
What do you think about the rumors that Bret Michaels will be the one to take Simon Cowell's spot on the show?
He would be awesome at it. You've got to have passion for it and love for music. You've got to have a great vocabulary of music. You've got to be able to understand the greats that inspired you along the way for your career. And I think it takes someone who really, really understands what it's like for young people to try to make magic happen in a minute and 30 seconds. If he [Bret Michaels] were to take that position, I think he would fit the mold perfectly.
What happened on the 'American Idol' finale that we didn't get to see on TV?
I was supposed to be the big surprise, so I was isolated at the Staples Center. My dressing room was at the Staples Center, so I had to take a buggy, one of the golf carts, and drive all the way along the tunnel to get to the Nokia [Theatre].
What do you miss most about working with Simon Cowell?
I never had brothers in my life, so Randy [Jackson] and Simon were like my brothers. Simon was the brother I never asked to have. What was beautiful about it is that we developed an amazing friendship. I miss him already. I miss laughing with him. We would provoke each other. We mad each other laugh at the worst moments.
Will you make a guest appearance on Simon Cowell's U.S. version of 'The X Factor'?
Right now, all I can say is that I'm excited about my new show.
Can you tell us anything about your new show 'Got to Dance'?
What I can tell you is that I'm beyond excited about this. Right now, I'm building the responsibilities and we're getting unbelievable talent. We're in the middle of hiring amazing talent that makes the magic happen.

They need someone thats a musician not Howard Stern, his mom or any other non musician, they need peers, and then a change of age limit. That is only so the AI people can make more money.Bands should be allowed too.Not all singers can go alone.

Really? I think not....he and his dingy wife are two of the most irritating people around. Bret Michaels gets my vote.

Can anyone really understand what Ozzie says? He mumbles. That would be a very poor choice. Choose me, at least the audience could understand what I am saying.

The Osbornes are the most irritating family ever to grace a TV set. They came to the USA and made it where they could; foul language, poor attitudes and a contempt for US audiences. These people were dead meat in England. Whining Sharon and muttering Ozzie plus their two Munster kids! Ugh! Makes me ashamed of my British heritage.

I think Harry Connick, Jr. would be a good choice. He did well in mentoring the idol contestants and that was one of the few weeks where everyone was praised for their singing.

Kelly, you nailed it! Who better? He is mega-entertaining, superiorly talented, intelligent, charasmatic and one of THE hunks of the music world. ... HEY! I can "hear it in the harmony"
Whoppi Goldberg would be the best replacement

NOT because he's my son, but Walter Turbitt (who was nominated for a Grammy) and has produced hit songs for top artists, would make an excellent judge. He's funny, honest and has been in the music business for a long time..and he's good-looking too! Presently he's producing for Right Bank Music in CA. Check him out.
