Taylor Swift Honored at Songwriters Hall of Fame Ceremony

Although she wasn't inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Taylor Swift was presented with the Hal David Starlight Award, which honors up-and-coming songwriters, The Associated Press reports.

Swift's friend, John Mayer, gave the award to the 'You Belong to Me' singer. "She's no accident," he said. "You could put her in a time machine in any era and she would have a hit record."

Mayer added, "Don't confuse everybody loving one thing as hype. Sometimes that's everyone agreeing that it's fabulous."

Other honorees included Paul Simon, Phil Collins and Leonard Cohen.

"I thought, 'Hmm, that's better than I usually write.' I was completely surprised that I wrote it -- it was completely unlike anything I had ever done before," he said of his tune.

Collins, who already belongs to the Hall of Fame, was granted the Johnny Mercer Award, while Cohen was inducted along with Jackie DeShannon, who wrote 'Bette Davis Eyes,' Bob Marley, Laura Nyro, Johnny Mandel, known for the 'M.A.S.H.' theme, and David Foster.

Taylor Swift is adorable and multi-talented. She plays a number of instuments and writes the melody and the poetic words that touch people's hearts. She is an inspiration and breath of fresh air. Loved her on SNL and in Valentine's Day.

Love how people like capecodguy07, james, and kr think they know music better than the people who are actually in the industry. Love the attitude of, "If I don't like it, anyone who likes it is a moron and must be paid off."

Get off your high horses and get a life. Taylor's award was well deserved. Just because you may not think so, people with more knowledge, experience, and background in music than you are the ones who make these decisions. Thank goodness.

I simply don't get all this fawning over Taylor Swift. Her voice is mediocre, at best, and her song lyrics????? Teeny Bopper stuff. Why anyone over the age of 13 would be remotely interested in the mindless music she puts out is beyond me.

Can you name any performer that appeals to the musical interest of everybody from age four through 104 universally? I didn't think so. She is writing and performing for a younger age group than you would like. What is wrong with that? I'm 69 years old and happen to like her music. I like a lot of other performers, too. That doesn't mean I have to get on the Internet and make fun of some I don't particularly like. I just don't listen to them or buy their CD's. I liked Elvis in the 50's and still listen to his music from time to time. I don't understand why so many people like to put down, make fun of and ridicule others on the Internet. What is your gain? What do you get out of it? Please. Educate us "old foggies".
