Taylor Swift Honored at Songwriters Hall of Fame Ceremony

Although she wasn't inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Taylor Swift was presented with the Hal David Starlight Award, which honors up-and-coming songwriters, The Associated Press reports.

Swift's friend, John Mayer, gave the award to the 'You Belong to Me' singer. "She's no accident," he said. "You could put her in a time machine in any era and she would have a hit record."

Mayer added, "Don't confuse everybody loving one thing as hype. Sometimes that's everyone agreeing that it's fabulous."

Other honorees included Paul Simon, Phil Collins and Leonard Cohen.

"I thought, 'Hmm, that's better than I usually write.' I was completely surprised that I wrote it -- it was completely unlike anything I had ever done before," he said of his tune.

Collins, who already belongs to the Hall of Fame, was granted the Johnny Mercer Award, while Cohen was inducted along with Jackie DeShannon, who wrote 'Bette Davis Eyes,' Bob Marley, Laura Nyro, Johnny Mandel, known for the 'M.A.S.H.' theme, and David Foster.

Taylor Swift is one of the few good younger singers out there. I bet people who think she sucks must be Miley Cyrus and Justin Beiber's fans, 'cause they know nothing about music.

You know what? I don't care if Taylor Swift isn't the greatest singer in the world, she's a great person!
Girls of all ages can look up to her. She's not sexing herself up like Miley Cyrus. She is a girl who can actual prove that you can show the world you're 20 and grown and NOT have to act like total trash.

Go Taylor. We need more girls in this world like you!

Wow, why are people so quick to judge. If Taylor wasn't deservin' of her good fortune God wouldn't have granted it. What Kayne done was wrong and we all know it. At least Taylor gives meanin' to music as they way music was suppose to be heard. I'm a far shy of the younger group but, believe you give credit where credit is warranted. I think Taylor is an awesome young lady and I hope she continues to touch the hearts with her lyrics. Haven't you all ever heard "If you haven't nothin' nice to say abt someone, it's best to say nothin' at all". We all know what's wrong in this world and those negative responses are definite sign it's only to get worse. Be happy for those more fortunate than yourself and quit whinnin' cause you aren't one of them. Thanks Taylor for remindin' me how sweet life once was and givinin' me hope that a song planted in my heart will keep a smile on my face in a world so cruel.

So listen guys and gals. This section is for your own opinions so you don't have to knock each other. I've been in this business for 40 years and have made a pretty good living. I can tell you right now TS by far does not have a trained voice. I don't know why she hits so many klunkers in her voice other than the fact that she probably can't her the tune she is singing. I do admit that the songs she writes are very good and down to earth. I believe she should write them for Kellie Pickler. Now there is a real singer and why she is not being recognized is beyond me. And what makes it even worse is that Kellie travels with Taylor and stay up at night writing songs together.. Just don't understand. One more thing Taylor, please stop throwing your hair all over the place when your singing. That's what they do in the Hard Rock Field. Maybe that's what distracts you. So someone tell me how the she keeps getting those awards. I can't believe those nominating people have the same tin ear.

I'm not a fan of Taylor's voice, she sings with little range and goes flat easily. She threw poor Stevie Nicks a nasty, flat curve ball with their duet. It was all Stevie could do to not walk off the stage Taylor was soo off key. However, she can write songs, and as she gets older and lives a little more her songs will be more mature. Her music reflects what she knows just like most other song writers out there. She deserves to be recognized for her writing and encouraged to do more of that. But please Taylor, leave the singing to someone else!
