Taylor Swift Honored at Songwriters Hall of Fame Ceremony

Although she wasn't inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame,
Taylor Swift was presented with the
Hal David Starlight Award, which honors up-and-coming songwriters, The Associated Press reports.
Swift's friend, John Mayer, gave the award to the 'You Belong to Me' singer. "She's no accident," he said. "You could put her in a time machine in any era and she would have a hit record."
Mayer added, "Don't confuse everybody loving one thing as hype. Sometimes that's everyone agreeing that it's fabulous."
Other honorees included Paul Simon, Phil Collins and Leonard Cohen.
Simon's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' received the Towering Song Award.
"I thought, 'Hmm, that's better than I usually write.' I was completely surprised that I wrote it -- it was completely unlike anything I had ever done before," he said of his tune.
Collins, who already belongs to the Hall of Fame, was granted the Johnny Mercer Award, while Cohen was inducted along with Jackie DeShannon, who wrote 'Bette Davis Eyes,' Bob Marley, Laura Nyro, Johnny Mandel, known for the 'M.A.S.H.' theme, and David Foster.

If she is such a great songwriter why do other people keep getting awards for writing her songs?????????? Another Idol success story we are told she is great so she is great. Sorry not buying it.

I'm not anti-Taylor but, what is she going to write about in 10 years? She can't write about secretly liking a boy and fairytales forever. That is basically 100% of what her lyrics are about and the reason her teenage fans like them, they are relatable.

I think Taylor is a nice girl, but she really cannot sing. I would have more respect for her if she would try to improve her voice. From what I understand she does not write all of her songs by herself. I have seen Keith Urban in concert and no way should she have won Entertainer of the year over Keith or the other nominees. She needs to quit doing all that goofy stuff on award shows like slinging her head around and having water dumped on her. I know that teenagers may like that kind of thing, but as she gets older she needs to mature in all aspects of her music. I do believe she is a good role model for young girls, but she is also a marketing machine & that could fade if she does not change as she gets older.

If that live performance with a stunned Stevie Nicks at the grammys or the train wreck for Brooks and Dunn are any hint of her singing talent, she should go into nursing or teaching. She coulden't carry a tune in a dump truck. Everyone I know who has heard her in person all say the same thing...SHE CAN'T SING without recording studio enhancement. And with it she is mediocre at best. I'll take Miley, Justin, even Lady GaGa.

I get it Pop Eater, if you do not say something good about Taylor, it does not get printed. Well I will say it again, if Kanye had not insulted her, no one would have ever heard of her again. The insult was to put her in a catagory with Michael Jackson and Beyonce is a joke. She might be going to the bank, but the bottom line is she cannot sing.

Last year I was walking through the airport, I looked over and saw a magazine cover. It took my breath away, it was whom I found out to be Taylor Swift. My youngest daughter was listining to the local top 40 pop station early this year. A catchy tune was playing, I like pop music sometmes. I asked her what it was "You belong with me" I asked her who sings it, Taylor Swift and I found out she is/was a 19 year old from PA AND she WROTE the song, I was blown away! Talent and looks, she'll be around a LONG time!

I thought she had already received every award and honor known to mankind. While she may develop better skills, she doesn't deserve all that she has received, considering the ARTISTS who should have, but have not received acknowledgement. Taylor can't possibly be better than everyone at everything. I realize that the genre is happy about her sales from tweens, but enough! She seems to have a great personality and enough talent to be produced short term, but I don't think her style will last.

She looks good and sounds good, at a time where we are short of hero's and talented people. I'm glad she made it. Best of luck.

How can you win a award like that when you write about the same damn things all the time?
