Helen Mirren Goes Topless in New York Magazine

This week's issue of
New York Magazine features a very intimate profile of
Helen Mirren. In it, she chats about what it was like working with her husband, director Taylor Hackford, in her upcoming movie, 'Love Ranch.' She also talks about playing the madam of a brothel and what she did to prepare. And she coyly reveals how she's still a "little notorious." Oh, and she poses topless in a bathtub full of water.
The photos of the Oscar-winning actress, 64, are surprising yet sensual. She seems totally comfortable in her body and her gaze is unwavering as she looks directly into the camera. It's the Mirren the world has come to know and love over the years. And if this next role is any indication, she's not done teasing and flirting with the audience.
Excerpts from the interview
after the jump.
On being the bad girl:
"I'm a would-be rebel -- the good girl who'd like to be a bad one. I'm still the good girl who wants to be a bad girl. But I'll never make it as a bad girl ... I'm not a prude or a moralist and I never have been, but I'm too fearful, too much of a wimp, really."
On acting:
"People say, 'Oh, you play someone else.' I'm always playing myself. You can only do it by going into yourself, in the deepest, most terrifying way. Not to say I haven't ever prostituted myself quite often and happily. But in my heart it's very serious."
On women's sexuality in the seventies and eighties:
"The Playboy Mansion, coke, and the rise of all that -- [Robert] Guccione and [Hugh] Hefner always pushed it as liberation, but it didn't seem like that to me. That was women obeying the sexualized form created by men -- though maybe we always do that, because we want to be attractive. But I was kind of a trailblazer because I demanded to do it my own way. I'd say, 'I'm not having it put on me by someone else.' I didn't want to be the sort of puritanical good girl with a little white collar who says, 'Don't shag until you get married.'"
On today's female stars:
"I love bold women: Madonna and
Scarlett Johansson -- sexy and gorgeous, but not only that. And
Miley Cyrus -- fantastic! And Lady Gaga. I love the way she's elevated pop to performance art, or dragged performance art down to pop, or maybe made a wonderful amalgam of the two."

Oh please, she shows more in an evening dress than in the tub shot. Mirren was always known as the one that would strip off, which made her movies popular.

Typical Aol. She`s naked, but off camera. Like Miley Cyrus. And so many others. Give my lust to Jeannie. Wish Phil well. Et cetera.

Which is quite ridiculous, considering that Mirren is very open about being a practicing naturist. Didn't anyone(especially those who wrote this article) see her in "Calendar Girls"? No one minds, not even Disney, since she's appeared(clothed) in two of their films since revealing her lifestyle! So really, what does it matter?

Hey Doc...just took a cialis, you know the disclaimer that reads,'if you experience an erection for longer than four hours, seek medical treatment'? one look at this and that erection was like a parade float that got hit with a howitzer round. who needs an er with aol around?

Oh, how youth is wasted...
Who's interested in "withered old hag?"
How about "withered old men!"
You demonstrate your lack of understanding of the human spirit and the actuality of our aging population. Open your eyes, youngster. If you're lucky, some day you'll make it!

Yes, prunish breasts made even more so by longtime soaking in water. Sorry, more revealing perhaps, but I certainly didn't find it attractive.

I don't get this. The first pic posted she looks great (hairstyle, haircolor, makeup, smile). She looks contemporary and georgeous. The picture in the bathtub she looks depressed (grey hair, hunched over and shell-shocked).I'm sure another photographer would do a better job.I don't know why people in their 20's,30's and so on want to make someone older feel bad.I think it's great that someone in their 60's wants to look and feel young and sexy.I hope that's me someday.

Perhaps-but at the same time I am older than my husband (52) and I can't buy cigarettes without showing an ID. I've kept my same weight since I was 16, and stay in shape. But he is 60 pounds overweight, wrinkled and gray, and not even 50. So I think that goes for both genders, on the physical side. On the other hand, he is generous, kind, hardworking, and loves my kids as his own. I do agree, though, that in our culture, we don't exactly wish to see "everything" past a certain age.
