"Everyone's really pissed off," Jenny McCarthy told Ryan Seacrest, co-host of last night's Gulf Coast relief telethon on CNN, as she monitored tweets about BP's oil spill catastrophe.
Well said, Jenny.
Larry King's star-studded telethon, which benefited individuals impacted by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, featured the likes of Justin Bieber, Cameron Diaz, Ke$ha and Ted Danson and hauled in more than $1.8 million, CNN reports.
"People are crying on the phone and giving money," said musician and New Orleans native Aaron Neville. Other participants in the 'Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help' event included Robert Redford, Pete Wentz, Nicole Richie, Alyssa Milano and Kathy Griffin.
Sting performed his song 'Fragile,' dedicating it to "all the people in the Gulf who have lost their livelihoods because of this terrible oil spill, and all the animals and birds we're losing, and to remember our ecology is very fragile."
In a recorded plea, Bieber somberly stated: "The oil disaster in the Gulf has been a big problem, but every little bit can help. There's no such thing as being too young to pitch in, and this is urgent. What we do now can affect our future. You can donate money or time or anything to the groups you've heard about on this show."
"What is going on in the Gulf is a tragedy and we need to help...tune in 2nite to LARRY KING and do what you can. thanks," Bieber wrote on Twitter.
See CNN's video report
In last week's PopEater roundup of pop culture and the oil spill, Big Boi told us he worries the oil spill may affect his seafood-heavy cooking, New Orleans native Ian Somerhalder said he was "shaken" by Hollywood's relative quiet on the oil spill front thus far and Roger Ebert vented, "I have no idea what to do about the Spill. Do you? Does anybody?"
so now what are they gonna do with the money they collected? give it to BP? i understand telethons to raise money for earthquakes etc, but? why? just cause its a disaster? truly it is but MAKE BP PAY FOR IT. give all that money back to the people that donated and APOLOGIZE!!!!!!!!!
Hel.... I'm sure the money collected will go to the folks that need it while they wait for BP to pay (...lol add nausium, you know how long bureaucracies can take). Or maybe.... they will give some to the foundations that have been collecting, rescuing, cleaning and trying to save the all but forgotten marine life and foul that have been effected. Or maybe it will go to help feed and provide protective gear for the volunteers who are doing what they can to preserve their beaches and ways of life by picking up the globs of oil by hand (they need all the help they can get....) Or, perhaps the money will help those that need legal aid to file claims against BP for loss of property, livelihood, etc. Or, maybe it will go to help with life necessities like health care, food, rent for those who worked for those that were put out of business by this mess... you know, the little guy with a job. Who knows?.... I'm sure BP isn't paying for everything although they should... As you know, they [big corps] never do...
they are raising money for people who's livlihoods are ruined because of this disaster. People literally will have no jobs because of what is going on. BP is already paying as they should also but some people feel like they want to do something to help and it is their perogative to give to the cause. Noone is forcing them to give.
Pretty small sum for all the bleeding heart liberal Hollywood types. You would think Costner and Redford could donate twice this amount without even thinking twice.
Give me a break John. What about all the conservatives that have made a fortune from the off shore drilling.Stop trying to put blame on anyone party, and lets just work together as a country and get this mess cleaned up.
Star studded????? and all they raised was 1.8 mil? hahahahahaha What? All those rich stars think being on the telethon was more than enough on their part? Seacrest himself just signed a 3 yr deal with AI for 45 mil..........that's 15 mil a yr and that's not counting everything else he gets money for. Where are their donations?
yeah, "star studded" is a leap. where were clooney and all the people who jumped on the bandwagon for haiti? must be too many white people in the gulf.
I'm so happy that the Celebrity Telethon was a success and that the money will go to help the folks in the Gulf. What really breaks my heart is all the suffering this Oil Spill has caused. Weather it be human or wild life. God only knows how long this devastation will last. Hopefully, this tragedy will be a life lesson for us all -- "Never take for granted what we have on Earth today, for tomorrow it could be gone in the twinkling of a eye."
Why wont they use Oclansorb Plus it was used in the vaidez spill. Put Oclansorb on the oil and leave in place in the spill site to accelerate the environmentally safe biodegradation of the petroleum though the use of controlled bioaugmentation. A-1 Supply in fayetteville NC has this product, give them a call. They can send you all that you want.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos

Earth Mama is right. These donations are to tide folks over until BP pays; and of course after BP settles up, then they will give the donations back.

I so agree with you. These so called stars disgust me with their huge salaries. Who the hell is worth that beats the crap out o fme
Larry King probably has 1.8 million in loose change in the cushions of his couch. Why can't these multi millionaires just cut a check themselves?
