"Everyone's really pissed off," Jenny McCarthy told Ryan Seacrest, co-host of last night's Gulf Coast relief telethon on CNN, as she monitored tweets about BP's oil spill catastrophe.
Well said, Jenny.
Larry King's star-studded telethon, which benefited individuals impacted by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, featured the likes of Justin Bieber, Cameron Diaz, Ke$ha and Ted Danson and hauled in more than $1.8 million, CNN reports.
"People are crying on the phone and giving money," said musician and New Orleans native Aaron Neville. Other participants in the 'Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help' event included Robert Redford, Pete Wentz, Nicole Richie, Alyssa Milano and Kathy Griffin.
Sting performed his song 'Fragile,' dedicating it to "all the people in the Gulf who have lost their livelihoods because of this terrible oil spill, and all the animals and birds we're losing, and to remember our ecology is very fragile."
In a recorded plea, Bieber somberly stated: "The oil disaster in the Gulf has been a big problem, but every little bit can help. There's no such thing as being too young to pitch in, and this is urgent. What we do now can affect our future. You can donate money or time or anything to the groups you've heard about on this show."
"What is going on in the Gulf is a tragedy and we need to help...tune in 2nite to LARRY KING and do what you can. thanks," Bieber wrote on Twitter.

In last week's PopEater roundup of pop culture and the oil spill, Big Boi told us he worries the oil spill may affect his seafood-heavy cooking, New Orleans native Ian Somerhalder said he was "shaken" by Hollywood's relative quiet on the oil spill front thus far and Roger Ebert vented, "I have no idea what to do about the Spill. Do you? Does anybody?"
Where's Pitt Clooney and Bono, don't they care about this country. Thanks to the people that took part, Seacrest could have matched it be's making billions.
how bout we enact a "false platudinal b-s bill" into law. That charges each celebrity with a 1 million dollar penalty every time their caught using the same "how much I care" and "how aweful it is" lines while stepping out of their out of touch with realty bubble for a ten second interview. Then we'll have enough to just suck the old ocean up and make a new one
I get a little sick and tired of these celebrities doing telethons to try and gain money for whatever the issue calls for. If you want to help, great, but these public personalities are the ones with the money and they should put in large amounts. Most people are struggling due to loss of jobs and can't afford to help.
So true Debbie. Celebrities are hypcrites. One movie that bad actress Jennifer makes can help out these people. Imagine 20 mil to be in a movie that hardly anyone sees anyway. Between celebs & CEO'S they all make me sick.
I heard nothing in advance of the telethon. I'm certain I'm not the only one. I imaging those who are avid viewers of CNN and Larry King WERE aware of the telethon. Pity more press or pre-announcement wasn't given out. No doubt more money would have been raised and more celebs would have attended. FYI: Costner recently appeared at a hearing in front of Cngress to discuss the spill and long term affects. He also has a devise that he and his business partner invented that will take almost of the oil out of the water and return clean water back into the ocean. Costner and his partner used their OWN MONEY for the devises too!Do a web search for more info about Costner and the divise which I believe aprox 10 will be ready and put to use around August 1st.
Hollywood has been laying pretty low on raising any money for this one...I guess it isn't as "glamourous" as if it was a disaster in some AMERICA hating country...they would all have their panties in a twist to see how much help they could raise!!!! I only wish we could scoop up all the oil & drop it on "Hollywood"!!!
I know we're all people here, but it seems that every time there is some sort of disaster, celebrities use it to their public relations advantage. I think the reason why they only raised 1.8 million is because something smells rotten in the state of Denmark. People are getting really sick and tired of celebrities riding on the backs of other people's misfortunes like a bunch of parasites. Who would it have hurt to get volunteers from world wide organizations such as the Red Cross to be answering those telephones? Celebrities seem to froth at the mouth every time something like this happens, posing as an average joe, or throwing a party for some awful pediatric disease. In other words, open your wallets, stfu, and leave the rest to the trusted, reputable organizations.
1.8 million Pure chump change . The Gods of show business like to show they care So people they get YOU to donate. They never seem to dig to deep in their pockets Yes to be right by some a few give. The most keep their millions for them and their friends. yep they would give more but those limos and private jets need to run on that BP fuel and that cost money. Oh wait ! can you hear it ? WE ARE THE PEOPLE lol nice tune so write that check

Since you probably don't read the real news, BP has purchased 32 of Costner's machines. No mention is made of how much was paid.
BP makes BILLIONS in profits. I'm not giving a dime to anything oil related.
If America really wants to help, cut back on the gas consumption.

1.8 million might buy lunch for everyone that is working on this while they all are having a 'barrel' of fun.

Larry - I'm one of those people who got layed off. That's the point. The people in show business who make the money should donate.
How much did you put in? And if you did, you are the one of the lucky ones because you have to give.
