Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart's Wedding: He Wore Jeans, Her Son Was Ring Bearer

We know, marriage is special. Still, it seems for Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, it wasn't such a big deal, but rather the icing on the cake of their eight-year relationship and 16-month engagement. Proof it was casual? PEOPLE reports Ford, 67, wore Wrangler jeans for the low-key June 15 ceremony. Flockhart, 45, donned a white sundress.

Flockhart's 9-year-old son Liam was the ring bearer. PEOPLE in turns calls the wedding "simple," "intimate" and "no-frills." The nuptials were held outdoors in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at Governor Bill Richardson's scenic mansion. Ford is filming 'Cowboys & Aliens' in the state and had a day off from work.

"This [marriage] will only enhance what they already had," Ford's pal and costume designer Bernie Pollack told the magazine. "They're both honest in their approach to life and to each other."

The relationship between the 'Indiana Jones' hunk and the 'Ally McBeal' starlet kicked off in 2002, after the two met at the Golden Globes. Flockhart, currently 45, said in 2003 that dating Ford, now 67, "doesn't faze me" in the age department. "Sometimes I even say, 'Wow, I keep forgetting that he's [22] years older than me.' It doesn't factor into our relationship at all."

She even goes on to say that while Harrison has more than two decades on her, he actually reminds her of a little boy at times.

"I like the way he looks first thing in the morning ... It's not handsome. It's more cute. He looks like a little boy. You know how when you wake up in the morning and you're kind of puffy and rumpled and you look kind of vulnerable? That's what he looks like," she told PEOPLE in 2003.

Flockhart quickly became not just Harrison's girlfriend, but also a part of his family. In 2001, she adopted her then-1-year-old son Liam, which brought the father figure back out of Ford at the age of 65.

"She's brought a child back into my home ... My youngest, other than Liam, is 17. It's a wonderful opportunity to be part of a child's growing up, which is always an endless springtime. You see the blossoming and the growing and the nurturing and the payoff," Ford said of his new son and of Flockhart in a Reader's Digest interview.

Ford also said that even at his age, he was still learning. "I still work on being a better father. I work at being a better mate. I've learned a lot from my relationships, and I have learned a lot from my kids. I think I have made some progress," he said.

Then, after happily dating with no strings attached (save for Liam) for nearly eight years, Ford shocked Flockhart -- and the Hollywood couple-watching world -- when he proposed to her in March 2009. He popped the question on Valantine's Day while they were on vacation with Liam in tow.

More than a year later, just as surprising as the proposal, the couple secretly eloped and tied the knot in New Mexico -- with none other than Governor Bill Richardson presiding over the ceremony.

Though neither Ford or Flockhart have made a public statement since the wedding (hey, it's their honeymoon, right?), Ford's son, Ben, is ecstatic over the impromptu nuptials. He told PEOPLE: "I think it is wonderful that they finally made it legit. It is really terrific news."

Great for both of them!!! Since this is what they both want...so be it!! Their happiness is the vital key to this relationship. Why should the age difference be of any concern to the rest of us??? We don't have to sleep with, interact with,
answer to or anything else with either of them SO WHY WORRY ABOUT IT?!?!?!? I think it's marvelous. As a matter of fact, I
see no reason why older women can't date/marry younger men. As long as there is mutual concent, what's the problem?? Our society, and the news media, need to quit making a big deal out of something that doesn't concern them. Reprt the happening. Report the facts. End of story. Sure, we are all entitled to our own opinions. Older/younger relationships are not crimes. Stop trying to make them so. Be happy for them!! Personally...
I'm for them. Whatever makes a couple happy, content, and whatever else, they should go for it. Life is way too short to short-change yourself. Harrison and Calista...congratulations!!!

Wow...Glamorized news. I just find it hard to believe we so easily forget how he left his first marriage, with an affair. The age difference shocks me, continued bad habits won't. Guess I'm glad to hear him say he's learned a lot from his relationships and kids. Just hoping its the right stuff.

In reference to Angelina Jolie, I feel that she needs psychological help. Money has afforeded her the privilege of adopting so many children and it does not prove her a fit or better mother. Brad Pitt should have picked someone else to have his children. Adults always survive these things, but the children always suffer. She does not deserve to adopt or bring any more children into her unstable life.
