Life Imitates Art for Gaga But Has She Gone Too Far?

When Lady Gaga showed up at the New York Mets game on June 10 wearing just a leather jacket over a bikini, it was obvious she was looking for attention. But when fans and photographers spotted her, she threw a fit, making ballpark officials escort her into Jerry Seinfeld's luxury box, where the 'Bad Romance' diva gave booing fans the bird. Oddly enough, she told Mets officials she "wanted to go incognito" (via NY Daily news).

There seems to be a valuable link missing between Gaga's art and her actual self. Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, grew up in Manhattan, but every part of her former self seems to be gone. She has transformed into the character she's been playing. Has she finally hit a breaking point? Her sauced-up attitude has people wondering if she's on the brink of losing it all.

Lady Gaga is serious about her artistic presence. She parades around in Alexander McQueen armadillo heels, bejeweled glasses and wigs, and doesn't miss a beat when it comes to her craft -- with sex-driven videos like 'Alejandro' and elaborate stage performances, including her bloody turn at the VMAs. But in the last few weeks, Gaga has missed the memo that there is a difference between performance and reality by drawing more attention -- bad attention -- to herself with bizarre outbursts we'd never expect from her.

"No matter how much talent you have, some celebrities are still very insecure," HollywoodLife.com Editor-in-Chief Bonnie Fuller tells PopEater. "She probably has a case of hyper-insecurity because she became famous really fast. Her reputation has been built on outrage, but it seems she has lost track of reality. Why else would she show up to a baseball game in underwear and then complain about being noticed by people who had a right to be there and take her photo?"

Gaga later continued her attention-seeking tour through NYC, attending a Yankees-Mets game wearing fishnets, a black bra and a pinstriped Yankees jersey. Although she didn't give anyone the middle finger, Page Six reported that she was permanently banned from the team's clubhouse after her boozy antics -- swigging Jameson Irish whiskey and repeatedly fondling her chest.

The Yankees' general manager denied the claims, but a MLB official noted, "Just because someone is a celebrity doesn't mean they get a credential that authorizes them to the clubhouse. I am sure there are exceptions ... She never had permission to enter either clubhouse."

Seinfeld has sounded off as well. On WFAN radio Monday night, the comedian called the pop star out for her recent ballpark fiascoes. "This woman is a jerk. I hate her," he said. "I don't know why she's doing this stuff. I don't know what these young people think or how they promote their careers. I'm not one of these all-publicity-is-good people. People talk about you need exposure -- you could die of exposure."

What's worse is that Gaga even overshadowed her own family by attending younger sister Natali's graduation ceremony wearing a black, veiled hat and nude bodysuit. Seriously?! Can't she give her sister one moment to shine and not be the center of attention?

We miss the Lady Gaga who loved dressing up and being photographed in outrageous outfits (at events where they were appropriate). We miss the Lady Gaga who gave us tripped-out music videos that boggled our minds. We love her music, but why is she flipping us all off now?

With all the fame and attention, some celebrities can't handle the constant bantering of tabloid hearsay and scrutiny. Look at Britney Spears. She seemed to have it all ... until she shaved her entire head and spent some time in treatment for a variety of issues. We definitely didn't see that one coming, even though the warning signs were all right in front of us. Is Gaga next?

"Gaga needs to worry about looking pathetic. People will tolerate rockstar behavior like smashing guitars and destroying hotel rooms, but she shouldn't complain about the attention -- that she's desperately seeking," Fuller adds. "She's clearly insecure, but if she continues this behavior, it will be the kiss of death for her career."

For now, she's becoming the butt of every joke imaginable. Even Citi Field has cashed in on the ruckus by holding a "Go Gaga for Wright" night, a campaign to help third baseman David Wright get elected to the All-Star Game. The first 20,000 fans at the game received a blue oversized foam finger -- an index finger, not the middle one -- emblazoned with "Make Wright #1."

It seems as though Gaga's need for attention (and then barking when she gets it) is a recipe for disaster. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I find this woman more than a little creepy. (Did you see that bizarre interview with Barbara Walters?) Her antics almost make Icelandic "musical artist" Bjork look sane. How about relying less on shock and more on talent? Oh, and how about letting go of that I-am-the-center-of-the-universe mentality. Soon we may hear about her checking into rehab....

Lady Gaga had gone Gaga. She seems to be going the way of the Lindsay Lohan's of the world. What ever she's on...she should get off. Finally? she has gone too far? She did that a long time ago. Just because you change from outrageous outfit to outrageous outfit does not mean you are re-inventing yourself. It may be her "thing" but it got old real quick. As a singer, she is mediocre, as a public fixture, she is something to look at and laugh, her "fame" will fade and in 10 years, no one will know who Lady Ri Ri diculous was.

I think it would be strange of her to dress normal. I am all for it though! What's wrong with looking like the person next to you. Dress strange/in character for your videos/concerts/award shows. Dress like society, and add a twist, when you're not in character. Lady Gaga: It's ok to be normal sometimes.
