Robert Pattinson Speaks Out on Kristen Stewart's 'Rape' Comment Scandal

'Twilight' star
Kristen Stewart caused quite a stir when she recently compared her encounters with the paparazzi to "being raped" in an article for British Elle. After several rape victim organizations cried foul, the actress issued an apology.
Now, in a new interview with
Entertainment Weekly, Stewart's 'Twilight' co-star and on-the-sly beau,
Robert Pattinson, spoke up in defense of his lady friend.
"None of those associations came out and gave a statement [criticizing Kristen] without being called upon by the media first -- who were doing it specifically to get hits on their websites," the actor tells EW. "That whole system of Internet journalists, where no one is called to account, is almost entirely about hate. All these people get away with doing it because they have no responsibility to anyone."
"All they need is to get a salacious headline and people click on it, because it's easy. And it's quite good being part of these 'Twilight' films because you have to give so many interviews all the time, you can defend yourself. That's the only way. All of us stick together, as well. There are so many little nerds behind their computers, on their little blogs," Pattinson continued.
When questioned about the 'rape' comment, Stewart said, "I'm so sensitive about stuff like that. That is the one subject that means a lot to me. I made one movie directly concerning it [2004's 'Speak'], and I made another one where my character has a horrible history of rape [2010's 'Welcome to the Rileys']. I talked to a lot of people about it. I used the wrong word. I should have said 'violated.' But I'm young and emotional. It's just the way it goes sometimes."

Man, I Hate the PC police. Nobody can say anything anymore without it getting picked apart. If she would have said murdered I guess it would have been OK 'cause dead people can't protest.

Of course he would side with her, neither know what it is to be raped and she is an idiot to even use that as a way to discribe what she is feeling. Get out of acting both of you, you both suck and can not do anything but the dumb vampire looks that you protray so lame. If she hates the media so much get into another line of business, oh yeah, not any talent to do anything else. her acting stinks too, sure likes the paycheck though huh!!

are we a little bitter? sounds like someone is jealous.
I know what it's like to have been raped and feel no issues whatsoever with her use of the word.
...honestly, my rape I can put behind me.
Those paparazzi never seem to go away. LOL
I want to know what Kristen had to do to get picked to been in this movie trilogy. Of all the actors & actresses in Hollywood I'm sure they could have chosen someone with some real talent. She's nothing really to look at so I don't know why the Vampire or Wolfman would even want to fight over her. They could have called me..I would have given them plenty of other actresses to choose from.

Yeesh...I wish they'd leave KStew alone already! She used a poor choice of words and she's apologized...(as if mortals are immune to mistakes?)...move on. I think she handles all the paparazzi constantly in her face/space rather well considering they don't give you any room to breathe. How kewl is it that RPatz stands by her through it all. Way to go Rob! You're both great people..I hope you kids make it!

How many people criticising this young actress themselves said silly things when they were 19 or 20? Every thing this girl utters is blown up and given way too much attention. I feel sorry for both of them. Hope they go on to less hugely popular roles and grow as actors. I think both are very good young actors and seem to have their priorities straight.

I understand what she meant, I really do. But she needs to be a little more wiser about the words she choses to use. Using such a word to describe the media is wrong especially considering true Rape is violent and a horrible event. To a true rape victim believe me its not about the media and her words trivialized what they went through. She should have used another word to describe how she felt. Live and learn. I bet next time she will.
