There's been plenty of hubbub about whether 17-year-old Miley Cyrus is going overboard on the sexuality in the lead-up to her new album, 'Can't Be Tamed,' but the singer says it's all about freedom and empowerment.
"My daughter introduced me to your music a few years ago," Sway Calloway tells Cyrus in an MTV News interview. "What I liked about it was you had a lot of empowerment themes."
Miley's response? "It's just about freeing yourself from anything you think is holding you back. And I think that's really important, especially for girls, because so many people are told, 'No, you can't do something,' or, 'You need to be this because mom and dad say that, teachers say this.'"

Oh brother. Being "sexy" has nothing to do with being liberated. You're 17. You know nothing of the world, much less relationships. But when you're 17, you certainly think you do. Her parents aren't telling her what to do because she's their retirement.

Thats so sad with all her Talent and Money she still feels inside that the only thing she has to offer is her body.I think she speaks for way to many girls her age despite many parents good intentions.I think our daughters go more by what they see in the media then what we want for them.She is another Rihanna from the outside she looks as if she has it all but on the inside she feels sad and insecure.

WOW. All she cares about is selling records and merchandise to the misguided children and their misguided parents.
She has probably had everything given to her that she wanted thanks to daddy's career and now she has the nerve to preach about empowerment to the 99% of America that wasn't raised with a silver spoon. Go back to being a joke of an idol to misguided little girls and leave the empowering to real women that have had to fight for what they have and are the ones that should be the real examples and idols to our young women as to how we should live.
BTW- empowerment IS NOT about how much skin you can show in public and who has the best boobs. Empowerment is about standing up for what is right and trying to make this world a better place for everyone.

There is no need for cruelty. Miley is still a child. Where are her parents in all of this? I guess their daughter "can't be tamed". She will lose a lot of old fans because of her behavior but I'm sure she's got some new ones.

Looking at these photos, all I can say is with that mug of a face she really can't afford to make those ugly faces. What is it with the Cyrus family...do they really think because Billy Ray had a one hit wonder, all his kids are prodigys and must be wrung out to the max with their overmarketing lest they be a flash in the pan tomorrow? Is Billy Ray so bitter about being a has been that he feels he needs to get his kids to milk it for all it's worth in the shortest amount of time possible. Hank you are correct - Billy Ray's ship has sailed and he is trying to make a new name for himself through Miley. However, things are different now - he a parent, and must guide Miley as a parent should, and mot like someone trying to piggyback on her success.

I am not a Miley fan but there is no reason to attack someone's physical being. The rest of us probably have things about us that are not pretty and we can't fix it either. Saying ugly things will only make matters worse. If you are a true Miley fan write her a letter and let her know how you feel.

While I do think it is inappropriate, Miley's new antics are just trying to impress people more of her age group and beyond. Music and sex today go almost hand in hand. Lady GaGa has gone out in public wearing less and has gotten no less than praise for it. Hopefully Miley is just a young girl trying to get this out of her system. I almost think thats better than Christina having a dominatrix-themed music video when she has a husband and a child. Her child is going to see that video and be like that's what mommy does. I wouldn't want my child seeing that.
