Miley Cyrus Says Sexy New Album Empowers Females

There's been plenty of hubbub about whether 17-year-old Miley Cyrus is going overboard on the sexuality in the lead-up to her new album, 'Can't Be Tamed,' but the singer says it's all about freedom and empowerment.

"My daughter introduced me to your music a few years ago," Sway Calloway tells Cyrus in an MTV News interview. "What I liked about it was you had a lot of empowerment themes."

Miley's response? "It's just about freeing yourself from anything you think is holding you back. And I think that's really important, especially for girls, because so many people are told, 'No, you can't do something,' or, 'You need to be this because mom and dad say that, teachers say this.'"

She said her new cuts 'Liberty Walk' and 'Can't Be Tamed' showcase these themes best. "I wrote ['Liberty Walk'] for women that feel like they're stuck in abusive relationships, but it's a dance song," she says. "So you think that must be kind of a sad ballad, but it's a party song. ... It's about breaking free."

Miley, only 17 but certainly experienced in showbiz, also offered advice to young people. "Really think about what you want to do for the rest of your life," she said. "There's a short amount of time, when you think about it, and no day needs to go by wasted."

Miley, your 17 an seem to be doing an imitation as a poor young woman, who works at a strip club in Las Vegas. (Does the movie Pay It Forward ring a bell? As a poor mom with a kid who has to do two jobs; a waitress and a stripper; just to put food on the table for her and her 12 year old son?) You really give a terrible reflection of her. Your trying to be a mix of Katy Perry, Brittany Spears, and Lady Gaga. I wish you would put on a pair of pants. My sister, (who happens to be 7) can acess youtube and last week she had sneaked on and watched your video "Can't be tamed" because it had YOUR name on it.
Then, mom woke up to find her dancing on her bed with underwear and her tankini top and a leather jacket murmering your lyrics. I'm teaching her not to be like that.

I have lost all my respect for you, as you had lost your image. People think your disgusting, and none of your junk is selling.

Really, Miley? Are you saying that you're rebellious and telling girls to go rebellious, too? You're 17, you should listen to your parents especially if you're living under their roof! I followed my parents' rules through my formative years and not only has it helped me stay out of trouble, I also built their trust and respect and I'm 22! And yeah, you're right, "sexy" CD empowers women but not for the right reasons.

A woman's empowerment should not result from strutting around just short of naked. Those actions just enforce the archaic stereotype that a woman's only value is her body. Miley is 17 years old. I remember Britney Spears doing the same thing and defending herself saying "I'm not a little girl anymore" will it's not about growing up. It's about prancing around in next to nothing and trying to be sexy just to further herself in her music carrer. I don't understand what she's trying achive here, but most women older than her, don't have to wear trampy clothes and bump and grind on stage just to be succssful. Carrie Underwood is a perfect example, so is Taylor Swift neither of them wear stuff like that and they are making millions.
