Ryan O'Neal Opens Farrah Fawcett Foundation Cancer Research Center

Farrah Fawcett's closest friends marked the first anniversary of her death by dedicating a cancer-research foundation in her name. Alana Stewart, Ryan O'Neal, Tatum O'Neal and Redmond O'Neal were among guests at an intimate gathering Friday at the new offices of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, which funds alternative cancer research and treatment methods and aims to improve the quality of life of those with the disease. Farrah Fawcett passed away on June 25, 2009, at the age of 62 after a long battle with cancer.

Stewart said Fawcett started her namesake foundation during her own struggle with cancer, and Stewart was determined to keep her friend's efforts alive.

"If I can help carry on Farrah's mission for the foundation, it's an honor for me," Stewart said. "I feel almost like she's a guardian angel watching over me, and I feel like she's smiling down on us and very happy that she died for a cause."

"She felt that she could help a lot of people and she could give a lot of people inspiration, courage and hope," Stewart continued. "That's why she did the documentary and that's why she started the foundation."

Ryan O'Neal said the first anniversary of Fawcett's death had been an emotional one for his family. Their 25-year-old son, Redmond, who has been dogged by drug problems and was jailed during his mother's final days, visited Fawcett's grave for the first time Friday. He said he still worried about his son, especially since Fawcett is gone: "He lost her, and he's fragile."

Farrah was hot as an Angel, then she started to prove she was actually a talented actress. Would have been nice to see her survive and take on more mature roles.

Will the Farrah Faucett Cancer Research Center study the causes of Ms Faucett's death. She died of anal cancer. Her husband, Ryan O'Neal, apologized if he was in any way responsible for her death. That suggests that the couple were engaged in anal sex, an abysmal practice (in my estimation) that degrades women. Will the Center ne studying anal sex as a cause of her death???

Paul: This was a very low statement what you said. One thing Ryan O'Neal and Farrah Fawcett were not married. If you bother to do research on anal cancer, it happens and also in Farrah's family there was a high cancer rate in her family. Her sister died of cancer. Check it up. It's in the internet.

mr daniggelis first off you are in correct about ryan o neal being farrahs husband he was he long time partner and as for anal sex what does that have to do with the way she died , cancer is cancer period its a worse thing to have and its very hard on loved ones watching what their love one is going through you cant do a dam thing and wishing it was you instead of them

I used to watched her charlie's angel on the tv many years ago.
I won't forget her and will always remember her forever... she was very beautiful and intelligent woman in her life.

A more needed foundation would be one benefitting offspring who are battling substance abuse because they were raised by absentee and drug-addicted parents who couldn't be bothered to nuture them and raise them in a healthy environment. Even I would donate to that foundation.

By reading Farrah Fawcett's life in the internet. There was nothing in there that said Farrah was addicted to drugs. Of her son's arrest, Redmond was 24 years old and already an adult. This was Redmond's own doing and he should have known better.

Ryan O'Neal is/was a long time drug user and exposed his children to drug abuse from the time they were children. Redmond, Tatum, and Griffin have all battled drug abuse thanks to dear old dad. He is a vile low-life who should never had children. Farrah chose him to father her son.

kerryz: you talk about Ryan being a drug user. How many drugs do you take? Do you smoke cigarettes? That's a drug. Nicotine is the most addicted drug there is. Do you drink coffee? Caffeine. Do you take cold medicines or aspirin? Drugs again. Do you drink wine or beer? That's a drug. Alcohol. Drugs are everywhere. It is control and elimination that counts. If Ryan was using drugs, his kids should have known better to stay away from them. It is not for us to judge.

In my experiance the only type of person that will surround themself with drug addicts or shack up with one is another drug addict and the odds are slim to none that she wasn't useing but you have to give her the benefit of the doubt.
