And my answer is the funny 'Girl'............BETTY WHITE! She's funny, loves animals, she's versatile, etc..!!

I agree sleepyhead she's awesome, I mean if we "must" pick a celebrity~
This list is what's WRONG with America......

I vote for the late Kate Smith...She is America
Totally agree! The fact more people can identify these celebrities than their representatives and senators is what is wrong with this country.
Oprah, Tiger Woods and John Gosselin are NOT American.

If I were to vote for anyone on this list for who I think makes me "proud to be an American"-it has to go to Sandra Bullock. Otherwise, there's really no one else on this list to choose from. I mean, really? Lady Gaga? Angelina Jolie? Kristen Stewart? Nope, not really. If, however, there were "better" choices, I would definitely go ALL THE WAY and say.......REBA McENTIRE! There's someone this country can be proud of without shame!

Yes, I also think Reba is a RIOT!! They should make us pick people with some morals, and who we can respect. Okay, I like Lady Gaga. Okay, she gave the finger in her underwear. ( hahahaaahaa )BUT, she did wear a shirt over it all, nobody knows exactly WHAT happened, and she was in like the No.1 Finger Giving City in the U.S ( she is a native ). Gaga is living the American dream of working hard to get to where she is.
This list doesn't represent the wide expanse of awesome american celebrities. Where is Tom Hanks who does so much for our military past and present?
Reply
Yeah, where is Tom Hanks? Or Carrie Underwood, Reba, Tim McGraw, Betty White, Dr G., Dr Oz, Fran Dresher, Christina Applegate, Celebs who survived an illness ( !! ), Elvis ( he went into the military ), didn't Ali go into the military also?, The Bee Gees, Dolly Parton, the list could be endless.
@Sleepyhead- Hate to break it to you, but people from other countries(even celebrities) have survived illnesses, too. Its not really an AMERICAN thing to beat cancer.
This list is crazy! None of these people make me proud to be an American-Wheres the war hero's, the hero's from 9/11 or our hero's we see everyday? No one on this list makes me ashamed to be American-Everyone makes mistakes, yes even those in the 'spotlight' so I'm not going to judge any of them-Wheres the names of Famous Native Americans whom tended to Mother Earth & respected it unlike some people today? Personally I think you could've done better in making a list for us to vote from!

You're kidding, right? A group of atheletes and entertainers!! I'd take most any member of the military over any five of the above for making me most proud. These 10 can be put in the "who cares" category. The worst part is, there are probably a bunch of members of the Entertainment Tonight / People Magazine crowd voting for them. That shouldn't make anybody proud.

THOSE are the choices? You have got to be kidding? No wonder we have problems. It is the average, everyday person who puts their sweat into their jobs so this country can attempt to survive the yoke the government has thrown on our shoulders. Nope....what makes me proud are the people who fight for this country, who go to jobs that pay little and still to try raise a family and instill values, people who can look in the mirror every day, knowing they gave it their best shot. I want my family to have the average Joe/Jane as a role model who are working for the American Dream.

Are you kidding with these nothing people on your list? How about some real American heroes! OK since you asked...Nobama. Reid, the putz Pelosi, and the liberal know-nothing idiots who elected them are among those who make me least proud..they know nothing of American tradition, culture, and history shame on them...Move to France A holes! ....Our fighting men and women who have to deal with these lame-brained idiots while risking their lives to save our lives and the lame-brainer's lives make me the most proud.

How about Firemen ( women )& Paramedics, Doctors, Vets.
In my humble opionion, it would be nice if the actors on your list actually spent most of their time in the US. I believe that would exclude Angelina Jolie. I understand that she currently resides in France....

Who cares? None that are listed have contributing anything toward making an impact on our world with the exception of Jolie. They all make an insanely amount of money and none of it impacts the human condition other than to take our hard earned money!

Real Presidents Don't Apologize For Their Country And Real First Ladies Are Always Proud Of Their Country. Obama and wife make me sick with their throwing of the United States under the bus at every opportunity.

None of those people make me proud to be an American. Our Troops hands down are the most worthy of my respect and it should be unanimous among all Americans. Barack Obama makes me the least proud, second only to Congress, and I'll stop at that.
