Jacob v. Edward? Elena Kagan Refuses to Answer

By all accounts, Solicitor General Elena Kagan appears to be coasting to confirmation to the Supreme Court this week. But before she gets that lifetimiest of lifetime gigs, she had to face a very serious question on Wednesday, one that's dividing families and teens around the globe: Edward or Jacob?

Yes, 'Twilight' fever has even found its way to the Supreme Court confirmation hearings, courtesy of Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Democrat of Minnesota. After acknowledging Kagan's "grueling day" of interrogation the day before, Klobuchar surmised, "I guess it means you missed the midnight debut of the third 'Twilight' movie last night."

"I didn't see it," Kagan responded, referring to the just-released 'Eclipse.' At that, Klobuchar mused that she was hoping to ask "about the famous case of Edward versus Jacob or the vampire versus the werewolf."

Sensing a trap, Kagan shot back, "I wish you wouldn't."

"I know you can't comment on future cases," Ms. Klobuchar said. "So I'll leave that alone."

Tuesday's hearing was also stacked with comedy, with Kagan knockin' 'em dead as if she were on 'Last Comic Standing.' The highlight was this exchange with Sen. Lindsay Graham, Republican of South Carolina:

GRAHAM: Now, as we move forward and deal with law of war issues, Christmas Day bomber, where were you at on Christmas Day?

KAGAN: Senator Graham, that is an undecided legal issue, which -- the -- well, I suppose I should ask exactly what you mean by that. I'm assuming that the question you mean is whether a person who is apprehended in the United States is...

GRAHAM: No, I just asked you where you were at on Christmas.

KAGAN: You know, like all Jews, I was probably at a Chinese restaurant.

good to know that both sens. from min. are so interested in their work. sen. stewart smalley fell asleep after doodleing a caricature of another panel member and now this twit is more concerned with a movie than with the job of testing ms. kagan's qualifications to sit on the highest court in the country. how sad.

I'm no Al Franken fan but I would be doing the same thing at that hearing sleeping because there boring how anyone could watch those hearings is beyond me. Amy was just trying to be funny and if Kagan would answer or not. Hearings are boring thats why I don't watch that is a fact.

I think Amy Min sentor was just trying to be funny is all these hearings are boring why anyone would watch these lame hearings is beyond me. I'm sure there are other senators that fall asleep in those hearing meetings as well.

She isn't giving the finger in the photo I have seen on live TV before I remembered that Simon did that on Idol 7 or 6 years ago I had no problem. It is a sign that hearings are boring.

It just goes to show that these hearings are all a farse. Their minds are already made up. It doesn't matter what she says. That is the real shame of all this. This is a lifetime appointment and can and will shape the future of this country. God Help Us All.

The fact of the matter is that if you have liberal president pick liberal judge just like a conservative will pick conservative judge. I bet you had no problem with who Bush picked for the Supreme court. Hearings are joke thats why whos up for the supreme court will always give you basic answers and thats it.

Kegan is a joke!!! If she gets confirmed for the appointment to OUR highest Court, somebody better be watching because it won't be long and this Great Nation of ours will be a has been!!! The Arab Nations are taking over and everyone is sitting back and letting it happen... Things had better change in Government or we're all gonna have to move to Canada or Mexico because the Mexicans are taking over and so are the Arabs... I feel for all those folks, but lets face it, Our country isn't OUR'S anymore it's their's!! They've taken almost everything OUR ancestors left for US and exploited it and we were dumb enough to buy it...

This is an important question? Seriously? This is one of the problems we are facing in this country, people are more worried about which character in a movie are national leaders prefer, mindless fluff nonsense. A better question would be to ask what her stance is on the 1st and 2nd constitutional amendments and if she plans to uphold the constitution. Supreme court hearings are a joke, and so are all the other clowns in washington.

I'm sure those questions were asked what you were saying. I don't see what that big of deal it is for one question even if it is fluff or mindless I would do it to end the questioning.
