Lovin SpoonfulIt just wouldn't be summer without that crazy fun, slightly annoying tune that you just can't get out of your head. Every summer has its anthem.

These songs typically have as their theme, you guessed it, summer -- things like beaches, sand and driving with the top down. The kind folks at Billboard were nice enough to round up all the best summer jams just in time for the July 4th weekend in their list of the top 30 "summer" songs of all time.

The songs are ranked based on each track's performance on the Billboard Hot 100 chart from August 4, 1958 -- the inception of the chart -- through the chart dated July 3, 2010. Songs are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least.

So who made the cut?

Number one on the list is 'Summer in the City' by the Lovin' Spoonful, followed closely by everyone's favorite surf theme, 'Wipe Out' by the Surfaris. The list continues to skew on the older side for most of the top 10, with the exception of No. 6 -- DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince's 'Summertime,' which is reminds us that Will Smith was once a rapper.
