Paris Hilton Detained, Released in South Africa

Paris Hilton was detained in the South African city of Port Elizabeth on Friday on suspicion possession of marijuana but was released soon after,
TMZ is reporting. Hilton was held following the World Cup quarterfinal match between Brazil and Netherlands.
Hilton's rep tells
TMZ that though the heiress was held and questioned by local police after someone in her group was caught smoking marijuana, she was cleared of any wrongdoing. The authorities even apologized for misidentifying her.
According to an
Associated Press reporter, Hilton appeared in a special FIFA World Cup court around midnight South African time but was immediately taken to another room before she spoke. Though no one from the Port Elizabeth police force confirmed Hilton is in custody, they acknowledged a high profile person is currently in court.
"This person is appearing in court right now. We cannot reveal information about her until she has appeared in court. I am here with the individual in court, we're waiting for the court to start," Port Elizabeth, Brig. Marinda Mills told the
Associated Press.
Hilton's publicist, Dawn Miller refused to comment before getting details from the court appearance.
The heiress pleaded no contest to an alcohol-related reckless driving in 2007 and subsequently spent 23 days in jail. She later told Larry King the experience made her question the role partying played in her life.

The police stops somebody because they smelled weed, it should be legalized anyway , so taxes can be charged on it. Then they can send the people who sell hard drugs longer to jail.

What an all round joke! South Africa in one of the worlds major growers and users of "dagga" as marijuana is called there. Everybody in that country smokes pot and some of the best varieties, such as "Durban Gold," are sold openly on the streets. South Africa is also the World's most criminal country where crime is everywhere and corruption within the South African Police Services is rampant to the point of epidemic. Either the police who made the arrests were trying to show off their "efficiency" by arresting a so-called celebrity or the dollar bills quietly tendered were not enough to go around the arresting officers.
