Paris Hilton was detained in the South African city of Port Elizabeth on Friday on suspicion possession of marijuana but was released soon after, TMZ is reporting. Hilton was held following the World Cup quarterfinal match between Brazil and Netherlands.

Hilton's rep tells TMZ that though the heiress was held and questioned by local police after someone in her group was caught smoking marijuana, she was cleared of any wrongdoing. The authorities even apologized for misidentifying her.

According to an Associated Press reporter, Hilton appeared in a special FIFA World Cup court around midnight South African time but was immediately taken to another room before she spoke. Though no one from the Port Elizabeth police force confirmed Hilton is in custody, they acknowledged a high profile person is currently in court.
